five years without you|| chapter four

Point of view: Midoriya Izuku

Five years. I had never lost track of the days since being there. Every day was a living hell. Torture. Manipulation. Everyday villains convincing me that heroes were fake, and that they would never save me.  Burns. Cuts. Electrocution. Time, and time. Over and over again. It was an endless cycle of pain.

I endured it all. I told myself over and over again. It's okay, the heroes will save you. They're coming for you. I never gave up. Well, I did give up a year ago actually. I just lost the ability to keep fighting them. I couldn't do it anymore. My hopes were starting to die out in heroes.

"It's been a long time, Midoriya," Todoroki says.

The warmth coming from Todoroki is a comfort after laying on the cold cell floor for ages. He's the first person I see, and I feel as if, he's been looking for me for a long time, because he feels so relieved while he's smiling at me. I want to say something to him, but I've lost the ability to speak normally around 2 years ago, all that screaming damaged my vocal cords pretty badly. All that comes out is bloody coughs and barely anything but a whisper. So I stopped bothering to speak. 

He's still as stunning as he was all these years ago. I bet he's an amazing hero now.. My admiration for him has now increased by tons. I give him a weak smile but my arms are numb, so I can't do anything. He seems to note this and lifts my arm to where it's not hanging.

My head hurts too much to look around and the light is really straining my eyes so I shut them instead and return to a familiar darkness. I hear faint explosions from below and wonder if it's Kacchan, but then again, I only know for certain Todoroki's here. It doesn't mean Kacchan is too..

"D-Deku.." I hear a trembling voice say from my left? I'm not entirely sure. The voice belongs to a girl, and it sounds so familiar, but I'm just not placing it. I feel Todoroki shift me closer to him, and the closeness and warmth of his chest seems sort of protective to me. I hear the girl hold her breath, and I think she's decided to keep quiet. What kind of look is Todoroki-kun giving her for her to be so quiet all of a sudden?

"Froppy, I need you two to take Sleeping Beauty down to the alleyway, if you go down that hall, I've melted the window and it should be cool by now. Uravity, you can use your Quirk to get Froppy and Sleeping Beauty down right?" I think the girl, Uravity just nods but my mind is going all haywire because, the name just sounds so familiar.

"Understood, ribbit." A new voice speaks up and I'm thinking that this is Froppy. She sounds familiar too. Why is my memory so fuzzy? Why do I only remember Todoroki-kun? Surely there were other people in my class other than Kacchan and Todoroki? 

I hear them shuffle around, before their footsteps grow faint. Now it's just Todoroki and I, alone in this corridor. "Midoriya.. I'm sorry I couldn't find you sooner. I've been searching all these years, and I, I found a lead a few weeks ago. I was so close. I could've had you out of here, weeks ago," he says painedly. "I'm sorry Midoriya. I really am. I'm sorry I let her tell me you were dead." Who is he talking about. Who is her? Was it one of the girls who just left?

"But I have something to tell you. And I've wanted to tell you this for the longest time. I-" The sound of the door slamming open made me flinch and Todoroki gripped me tighter. "Oi, the building's gonna collapse in around 3 or so minutes so we really need to head ou-" I can only recognize that voice as Kacchan. Kacchan? So he really is here. "Deku.." The way he says my name surprises me. He no longer says it with the anger or resentment he used to. It's soft. Different. I'm confused.

"Told you so, half-brain." I hear him mock Todoroki. And I think Todoroki gives him a smile back as he nods in agreement. "Yeah, you were right." I can't tell what they're talking about, but before long, Todoroki starts running and I can hear Bakugou behind him. "Midoriya, we're gonna jump, so if you feel like you're falling, don't worry." Is all Todoroki says before I feel wind rushing past my face and feel as if the ground disappeared. Todoroki is holding on tight to me and I can hear explosions behind us, probably Kacchan trying to get down himself.  And then everything is still again.
