I found out that Ronnie has the flu, so he'll be out for a few days. This class is going to be hell. I saw Sammie talking, wait make that arguing, with two other girls. I didn't exactly know what was being said, but it looked liked the girls were giving her a hard time. I wanted to get up and help, but there wasn't much good I could do for her. It finally ended with the two girls walking away laughing, not of course before the dark haired one purposely bumped Sammie's shoulder.
Sammie entered the room, looking at the floor as she walked. She sat down in the same seat she did everyday. Not once did she pick her head up. I looked away and pretended to be interested in my pencil, when really I was hoping class would be over as soon as possible. I spared one more look around the room, but this time my eye caught Sammie's, she gave me a small smile before looking down at her notebook once more. I can't tell you why or even when, but somehow I ended up next to Sammie.
"Are you okay?" I asked her. I figured that was a stupid question, what else was I supposed to say? I wasn't even sure what I was doing over here next to her.
"I'm fine." she said not looking at me. I couldn't tell if she was lying to me or not, she wouldn't look me in the eye.
"It's just that, it looked like those girls were giving you a hard time." I said trying not to push her, but I still wanted to make sure she was okay. Really okay, not just saying she was.
"Oh, that? Everything's fine. It was stupid." she said brushing it off as if it happened all the time, and from what I've heard it does.
"You sure?" I asked.
"Positive." she said nodding her head.
"Don't take this the wrong way, but I always see you by yourself." I said. Whenever I saw Sammie she was sitting by herself writing in her notebook.
"My friends and I only have one class together, and it's at the end of the day." she explained. I felt shocked.
"That's rough." I told her. I didn't have every class with my friends, but I certainly had more than one.
"It could be worse," she said. "I could have no classes with them." There was just no way to bring her down was there? She never seemed bothered by anything, that's not a bad thing per say, but it's interesting.
"Yeah, you could look at it like that." I said nodding my head.
"You have to keep your head up around here, or else they'll eat you alive." she said as the teacher walked in to start the lesson.
After class we were picking up our things, when Sammie stopped and looked at me.
"What made you sit over here today?" she asked. I shrugged my shoulders, like I said myself, I wasn't sure really.
"You seem really nice." I said simply.
"Thanks," she said slinging her bag over her shoulder. She gave me the same small smile she did earlier. "You're pretty nice yourself." she said as we both walked towards the door.
"Do you know when Ronnie is coming back?" she asked me. I honestly didn't think she would know who Ronnie is. I mean I'm sure she'd notice he was out, because of how I sat next to her.
"He just has the flu. He should be back before the end of the week." I said.
"That's good, I'll catch you tomorrow." she said with a wave. I noticed a guy waiting for her.
"Bye." I said as we went our separate ways in the hall.
Considering luck is never my friend, Dave was watching from the lockers where he was standing with his girlfriend.
