It was a premonition

So much time has passed since Adaryn informed me of my father, and the dream, yet I can not think of anything else.

Two full moons have come and gone in my new life.

Joshua wishes to court me, without ever seeing my face.

Adaryn has told me so.

“Annabelle, pay attention or you will hurt yourself.”

“Yes ma’am, sorry.”

They can tell I am distracted without seeing me.

“Make everything presentable! The prince will be here shortly.”

I must hide.

“Annabelle, stand over here.”

“Yes sir.”

This is not hiding Joshua.

“Where is my horse?”

She is my horse.

“Over here prince. She’s had special care as of late.”

“Special care? By who?”

“This young lady right here sir.”

Rowland scoffed.

“How can you tell that’s even a woman? The clothes show nothing.

Show us your face.”

“I’d rather not prince. I’m not much to look at.”

“I will be the judge of that. Lower your hood.”

He will have me arrested if I argue.

Please forgive me Adaryn.

Slowly, I lowered my hood, awaiting the spell to shed.

“You-”

“Are beautiful.” Joshua finished, not once leaving my face.

“Tell me, why hide a face as perfect as yours milady?”

And so it begins.

He wishes to steal my heart.

____

“So he’s seen your face.”

“Yes. He made me lower my hood. Everyone now knows.”

“Did he seem to recognize you?”

Slowly I shook my head.

Adaryn stood there baffled.

“He did not recognize you.

Right, be sure he does not take you out of this town.”

“I will be sure he takes me nowhere. I wish to see him as little as possible.”

“I think we both know that is impossible now, he has seen your face.”

The tone in her voice made me shiver.

She was right. Now that he has seen my face, he will pursue me to the ends of the earth.

“Isn’t there any way you could change my appearance? Or change his tastes perhaps.”

“I can do no such thing, if I change anything the original spell will vanish. And then my dear, we are both dead.”

“You have such a way of calming me Adaryn.” I said sarcastically, sitting on my bed.

“Hush now child, go to sleep. You’re going to need your rest for the days soon to come.”

Laying, I closed my eyes, hoping sleep to soon take over my senses.
