❝You're Tony Stark, y'know? Girls tripped over themselves to be with you before you became Iron Man. Now, I don't know if you noticed, but I'm not exactly popular, or hot. Girls never looked my way unless it was to copy geometry homework off me. She...

Times where Rafe was home alone were precious to him.
Today, he had the house to himself, a rare occurrence in the middle of the week. Well, that was a lie, he wasn't alone just yet. His dad was rushing around the living room, collecting things he needed before going to work. Aliya was on the phone to her boss, talking in hushed tones as she looked a little panicked. Rafe smirked at his father as he stood in the centre of the room, scratching the back of his neck. Rafe stood up, knowing exactly why his father paused. Digging into the arm of the recliner chair, he pulled out his car keys. Jingling them, Nathan gave him a thankful smile. "You'll never stop doing this, will you?" Rafe commented, handing them to the older man.
"Thank you, I was not in the mood to take the subway today." Nathan grumbled. "We are drowning in work these fews days."
Rafe nodded, turning back to the tv which displayed the new story of the disaster in Lagos. A few days before, the Avengers were caught in a problem in the African country. Some terrorist affiliated with the nazi group Hydra, who coincidentally had their grubby hands around SHIELD's neck for many years, was causing havoc and so the Avengers were called in. What started as something the heroes could control went south fast. In an attempt to kill Captain America, Crossbones detonated a bomb vest. Wanda Maximoff, one of the New Avengers tried to contain it but instead blew up half a building. Since then the Secretary of State hadn't left the screen, complaining about the Avengers and the consequences they never seemed to stick around for. Mentions of some kind of accords were floating around but Rafe didn't want to hear about them. Especially since his father seemed to hear enough about them at work, considering he had to make testimony after testimony to General Ross these past few days about the Battle of New York and the squadron he lead that day.
"Yeah, so maybe you shouldn't be standing here and instead get your butt moving." Rafe pushed his chest lightly, trying to speed up his exit. "I can handle a few hours at home before Nora comes back from her date."
Nathan nodded, opening the front door. "That reminds me, make sure that Parker boy has her home before seven. As much as I trust her, I still need to warm up to him."
"Oh no, you are not shoving the dad duty to me today. Today, I am free as a bird, uncaged, wild, spreading my wings—"
"Dial it back, Tweedy Bird." he ruffled his son's hair. "Remember, seven." Rafe gave him a two finger salute before he closed the door on him. It was weird, to think that this was the first time in a while where he didn't have to lie about Nora's whereabouts.
Switching the channel until he settled on a Friends rerun, Rafe sat down to see Aliya wander in, biting her thumb nail. "No, Mr. Young, I know. I just...these family emergencies are really important. I understand it's becoming a problem, I get— No, I care about this job." she sighed in what could only be described as defeat. "Yeah, yeah, I'll be there in twenty." she hung up, groaning loudly and hitting her forehead against the door frame.
