Cara tried to forget about the voice inside her head. She pushed it to the back of her mind for the rest of the party.
When it was finally dark enough that the party had to end, Cara walked up to her foster mother. "Hey honey, how was the-" But her mother was cut off by a gasp as she turned around and looked into Cara's eyes. "Honey! You drank the water didn't you?"
"What? Yeah... Why?" Cara asked, confused as to why her mother looked so scared.
"Honey..." Her mother sighed. She took Cara's hand and pulled her inside the house and into her room. "You're grounded." she said sternly. And before she knew it, Cara was locked in her room. Cara let her red hair fall from its ponytail and let it drape around her shoulders. She walked up to the window and looked out at the forest that surrounded her house. She sighed and closed her eyes. Hello? she asked the voice in her head.
Cara, the deep voice said again. Cara, do you see me?
Cara frowned she didn't know what she was looking for. She glanced around her room and when she didn't see anyone, she looked out her window. Nobody was in her yard. Nobody but two large deep green eyes in the undergrowth in the edge of the woods.
Yes, she said, perplexed by the eyes. They were the same exact eyes as hers.
Cara, I need you to come outside and see me. Said the voice.
Cara took a deep breath, she needed to get out and away from her over protective foster parents. She threw open the window and let her feet dangle over the edge. She threw off her white sandals and threw them on her bed. She jumped from the window and landed hard on the grass. Laying there for a minute, winded, then stood up. She found the green eyes again and walked towards them slowly.
When she approached them, she gasped. The green eyes were a large, gigantic wolf. It had brown mottled fur and russet almost red mane like fur on its neck. Its muzzle was long, spotted and thoughtful. Its eyes were friendly and an exact copy of hers.
Cara, the wolf said to her in her mind. I can only communicate with you like this. So listen. I have a lot of explaining to do.
