It was funny how you always got bad news on the best days.

Michael was currently sitting in the living room with May's uncle who was lower than Michael could ever remember him being.

"Maybe we shouldn't tell her now." Shea spoke looking between Michael and the steps

"The longer we wait, the longer she'll hold it against us." He responded

They both sat holding their breaths as they heard the patter of her feet go down the long hallway and the steps. She smiled at both of them sleepily and Michael was crumbling thinking of her reaction.

"Hey Uncle Shea, what you doing here so early?" She asked hugging him

He shook his head laughing. "It's almost 12 baby."

They both laughed, and moved their conversation to the kitchen so may could get some food.

Michael and Shea looked at one another making those weird gestures of who was going to say something first, while May mindlessly poured her orange juice.

"So, what's going on with you two?" she questioned looking between the men

"Your uncle has something to tell you." Michael told her

He sighed and Malaysia's ears perked up. "Your aunt has cancer."

The room was silent. I mean, you could hear someone drop a pen a mile away type of silence.

Michael and Shea looked at one another, then to Malaysia who was just staring. She hadn't said anything, and that scared Michael a lot. When she didn't say anything he knew her mind was going a mile a minute.

"Listen, baby. I didn't want to put this all on you, she starts chemotherapy soon and I didn't want you to be the last to know."

"Thank you." Was all she said "is it cool if I come over later?"

"You can come over anytime. I'll probably have a few bruises once I tell her I came and told you."

They both chuckled.

"Love you baby."

"Love you too."

Michael waited for May to come back into the kitchen and when she did she sat on top of the island.

"May?" He said lightly

"I'm fine."

"I never asked you if you were." he murmured going to stand in front of her

He didn't know what to say, so he just left little kisses all over her face to let her know he was there. To let her know that she wasn't alone and her little sloppy sideways smile was her silent thank you to him.
