May was bouncing back and forth as she waited for the pot to come to a boil. she was having everyone over her house and to say she wasn't the least bit anxious would be a complete lie. She had to go get extra blankets - and by extra she meant the ones from her aunts house that she always kept for when they had family over. she had to make food, and bake cookies and do this and do that.
she was stepping in for her auntie and she wasn't gonna let her down.
she made checklists and cleaned for about two days straight and michael came for his winter break, along with his family who were also in town. Kehlani was upstairs cleaning the bathroom and loading the closets with tons of soap, towels, rags and so on.
"May! we have an issue." Kehlani yelled
jogging up the steps she was met with a "mhm hmm" faced K. "what happened?"
"Why the hell is there only oatmeal n honey soap. You know my ass love lavender vanilla, you're acting up for real for real."
May rolled her eyes at her friend. "sis, i thought something serious happened."
"This is serious, now my ass has to go buy some and you know i don't like going to the store with all those damn people."
"girl, finish cleaning up." she laughed walking back down the hall
"hope you're ready for later!" she yelled
6 p.m
the house was roaring. people taking pictures in front of the blue and silver decorated tree that Mays uncle helped put up. The silver decorations placed around the house, miscellaneous mistletoe's in doorways and the smell of cashmere woods and cookies filling the home was more inviting than May could ever imagine. She was finally doing something right for once and it felt nice.
"you want some coquito baby?" manny, her older asked
"nah i'm cool. not really a fan bud." she laughed "make sure you're eating with that, we don't need a redo of last year."
"I'm on it." he smiled, nudging her as he grabbed a few cookies and slider.
"hey babe, where's the small blankets, kendall fell asleep?" michael asked
"her blankets are upstairs in the drawer under the bed." he thanked her, giving her a kiss before disappearing.
She placed more food out before sitting down at the table. she was exhausted, but she had to stay up for just a couple more hours ya know? she scrolled through her facebook timeline liking pictures that people were posting. she smiled before adding a picture of her family adding a quick caption:
there's nothing like family around this time. things haven't been easy but with the right people they could help make everything better! we're missing one angel but her spirit is floating high in here. Merry Early Christmas y'all, enjoy and be safe
hitting the upload button and locking her phone she slid it in her pajama pockets and went to enjoy the family.
-12 a.m-
"It's Christmas May!" Kendall, her little cousin beamed
"I know!" she smiled back at the girl before getting up to get everyone's attention
"Alright everyone, quiet down please! It's now 12:01 so Merry Christmas!" she laughed gaining the phrase back in all different tones. "As tradition states we get to open one gift now and the rest in the morning."
