By the time we got home and dropped off Seth, I was planning on what to wear. I wasn't exactly the type to do this, but I guess it comes with the new territory. Sam had grabbed me by the hips just seconds before I ran into the door jam. I was shocked and turned to face him. "Oppsies,"
"You aren't the brightest crayon in the box are you," Sam muttered, shaking his head as he squeezed past me into the living room. Emily appeared, walking by holding a basket of freshly washed clothes. She stopped suddenly when she saw me.
"...Mirabelle? Are you okay? You look like you have a fever!" she dropped the basket onto the couch next to Sam and ran over, placing her hands on my flushed cheeks and forehead. I smiled wide, laughing at her. She thought it wasn't all that funny. "Do you feel okay?"
"I feel fine Emily, I'm just...excited," I said, laughing again. She sat down on the little space that was left on the couch.
Emily cocked her head to the left a bit before asking, "About what?"
"I'm going on a date with Seth tomorrow!" Sam rolled his eyes as I did my version of the 'Happy Dance'. My Fifth grade teacher came up with it. I always thought it was weird, but I did it anyway.
"Sweetie, that's wonderful! Where are you guys going?"
I blinked a few times before plopping myself down onto the carpet. "Um...I don't know. He didn't say,"
"Well, either way we'll have to go shopping to get you something suitable to wear. When are you going?"
I bit my lip, "Tomorrow night," Her eyes widened and a weird sound escaped from her mouth. Something between a sigh and a groan.
"Well, I guess we have no choice. We have to go right now," She jumped up, running to her bedroom to put on something less comfortable. My mouth hung open, trying to find the right words.
"But...but I have school tomorrow! Look, it's almost seven already! And we haven't ate yet," The words just kept coming, trying to figure out what was the best way to get out of this. Emily reappeared in the living room, now wearing jeans instead of sweatpants.
"Come on sweets, let's go." She grabbed my hand and started dragging me out the door when Sam asked, "What am I supposed to do about supper?"
Emily stopped, thinking for a second. "You can come with us. We'll go eat first, then go shopping afterward,"
He let out a humongous sigh and got up, grabbing his shoes, slipping them on quick before following us out. "This is what I get for being born a guy," he grumbled. Emily ignored him and started up the truck. I sat in the middle, slightly squished. The truck wasn't the largest one in the world, but it worked well enough.
I wasn't quite sure where we were going to eat, but truthfully, I really didn't care as long as a) the food tasted relatively okay, b) it wasn't too expensive, and c) we didn't have to wait long for our food. Turns out we went to Wendy's, which was my favorite restaurant in the area. There was a lack of people which was a huge plus; it was way quieter that way. I resorted to ordering my usual; a double cheese burger and a medium mellow yellow. Emily grabbed our food and sat down in a booth next to a window facing the street. I could see the mall on the opposite street with people just crawling in and out.
"Wow, for a week day that place is pretty busy," I said, stuffing a few fries into my mouth. Emily smiled, taking a sip of her coffee.
"Yeah, there's a huge sale going on, so everyone'd trying to get as much shopping done before it's over,"
"Oh," A couple came out, smiling brightly, a cute little boy clutching his mother's hand. He was holding a build-a-bear box in the other hand. They looked like a perfectly normal family with no worries. If they only knew...
