Flashback
Damon, Stefan, Father and I were walking together across our property as Father had something important to tell us. "As descendants of the Founding Families, they'll want to know that they can count on you."
"Of course they can," Stefan told him. "Is there any doubt?"
"I'm not sure your brother Damon understands the importance of duty."
"Damon left the Confederacy on principal. It was his choice and should be respected."
"You'll forgive me if I have trouble respecting a deserter."
"Well, I never asked for your respect," Damon replied.
Our father stopped, facing Damon as he halted in front of him. "Good for you, Damon. Because all I have is disappoint."
Growing tired of Father's behavior toward my eldest brother, I asked, "You said the town is in trouble?"
"There's been too many deaths," Father answered. "It is time for us to fight back and stop these killers."
"Killers?" I repeated. "What are you talking about?"
"We live amongst demons."
"You're being cryptic now, Father," Damon told him. "Why don't you just say the word?"
"Vampires. They exist. And they live amongst us. But we have a plan to kill them. And you're going to help us."
Father looked at Stefan, my brother who nodded understandingly. Father then looked to me, but I didn't respond or move, confused. Finally, Father looked to Damon, my brother who did not make a move to indicate what he was thinking.

I watched warily as Father and Katherine played croquet in the garden, Katherine telling Father, "You can trust me, Mr. Salvatore. I would never cheat."
Katherine hit the small ball with the mallet, the ball rolling through the bridge. Father sighed, Katherine giggling as he looked toward me and my brothers several yards behind me. "I'm losing over here. Again!"
Katherine turned to look at Stefan and Damon, so I followed her gaze.
They both smiled toward me.
I folded my hands against my back, walking toward our home.

Now
"Anna's in town," Damon told me over the phone.
"I know, I saw her at the dance yesterday," I told him.
"And you're waiting until now to tell me this?"
"Neutral Salvatore, remember?" I asked, snooping around in a room that didn't belong to me.
"Where are you?"
"Where do you think?"
I looked around Anna's empty motel room again.
I heard the door open from behind me.
I turned to face Damon as he hung up his phone. "Good."
"How'd you find out about Anna?" I asked.
"Through Jeremy," Damon answered.
"That must've been interesting."
"It was."
We both heard someone else at the door, and I disappeared behind the door the same time Damon disappeared into the bathroom.
