Blitar is a city in East Java , Indonesia , about 73 km from Malang and 167 km from Surabaya . The area lies within longitude 111° 40' - 112° 09' East and its latitude is 8° 06' South. Blitar Regency is located at the southern tip of East Java, directly adjacent to Kediri regency in the north, Indian Ocean in the south, Tulungagung regency in the west and Malang regency in the east. The district government center with an area of 1,588.79 Km2 is located in Kanigoro, which was previously part of the city of Blitar. Blitar is also an area that flows by the Brantas river, the second longest river in East Java after Bengawan Solo, where some enter Central Java region. This river plays an important role in political and social history in East Java Province and has an important substance for soil fertility.
BLITAR as it stands "Bhumi Laya Ika Tantra Adi Raja" is the earth where the kings live. Because here is the founder of Singasari Kingdom, the founder of the Majapahit Kingdom, and the founder of the Republic of Indonesia is buried.
The city is noted as the location of the grave of Sukarno, the first President of Indonesia , five kilometers from the city plaza. The Istana Gebang (Gebang palace) where Sukarno lived as a child is nearby and has been converted into a museum] containing numerous items commemorating Sukarno's place in Indonesian history. In addition, the very active Kelud volcano is located just over 20 kilometers north of Blitar. Former Vice President of Indonesia , Dr. Boediono , and the commander-in-chief of the Indonesian military , Admiral Agus Suhartono , were born in Blitar. Both of them are the alumni of SMP Negeri 1 Blitar and SMA Negeri 1 Blitar.
In addition to being referred to as the City of Proclaimers and Patria City, the city is also referred to as the Map Town (Defenders of the Homeland) because under Soeprijadi's leadership, Laskar Peta opposed Japan for the first time on 14 February 1945 inspiring the emergence of resistance to independence in other areas . The popular koi fish in Japan can be cultivated well in this city so it gives an additional nickname as Koi Town.
Blitar is located in the south of East Java Province, located at the foot of Mount Kelud with a height of 156 meters from sea level, and the average air temperature is quite cool between 24 ° -34 ° Celsius.
Local economic governance
Based on the survey conducted between August 2010 and January 2011, Blitar was rated number one in Indonesia for local economic governance, being considered particularly good in infrastructure, interaction between local administrations and businesses, business licensing, and regional head capacity and integrity.
