'Wake up!' The ever alarming voice of my aunt rang out on Sunday. 'Get your lazy butts downstairs for breakfast!'Agh, how my aunt gets up this early on weekends is beyond my knowledge. Stiffly I lifted my bed covers and got dressed. 'What is the issue?'
'What is the issue?' My aunt burst through the bedroom door. 'We're going for a walk!"
'What?!' Ella and I both looked up at the same time, only to see an extremely happy aunt beaming at us. 'A walk?' Umm, I'm probably still dreaming, I decided.
'Yes a walk.' Our aunt said, her radiant smile dimmed, 'I don't know what you two girls do to scare off all the potential suitors but I'm going to change that today! After breakfast, everyone is going for a walk in the park.'
'Even Uncle Bufford?'
'No, I wasn't able to let your uncle see the benefits of spending a lovely Sunday morning with his family.' She clapped her hands, steering Ella and I down the stairs. 'Enough talk! Let get you two down there.'
'But I have a dancing lesson at 10.' Ella exclaimed, looking at our aunt with her big blue eyes.
'Yes, yes!' I quickly joined in, hopefully my persuasive speech combined with Ella's adorableness can change our Aunt's plans. 'I have an embroidery lesson this morning! I cannot hope to miss a single class.'
'When did you start gaining interest in your embroidery lessons?' Disbelief was dripping from my aunt, her eyes narrowing at the Ella and I. 'Young ladies, we are going for a walk in the park. Nothing is going to change that.'
I sighed. Right, there was no getting out of this.
'Daily walks are beneficial to your health.' Our aunt beamed.

So after our usual breakfast of porridge and salted herrings,my aunt, Ella, Lisbeth, the twins; Maria and Anne went outside with a displeased me. Old Gertrude choose to stay behind with the official approval stamp received from my aunt. When I pointed this out, my aunt dismissed as if I was a particularly ignorant 5-year old child.
I must confess, the talk wasn't too bad. My legs were already toned from my many adventures with Mr Ambrose and Karim. Speaking of Mr Ambrose, a image popped up in my mind of us.....in South America....doing....things- )&!(&*#$(^%^* NO! Break that thought. Break that thought!
'Oh look,' I said to no one in particular, pointing to a display of dresses and suits in one of the shops we passed by.
I glanced at the wondrous display of dresses available. There were stunning silk ball gowns, sleek black suits and much more.
'Yes, yes. We can all see that. But it's not like uncle Bufford would ever open his purse again.' Maria said, her face sour.
'Never mind that girls, eyes forward, backs straight!' My aunt shushed us, as a bunch of well-dressed gentleman appeared in our view.
A string of distant murmurs soon reached our ears.
"Did you hear that?" Ella inquired.
'Ummm' Straining my ears, I listened closely.
"-yes, yes-"
"-want that man to be dispos-"
"-course, my lor-"
"-go-"
Hmmm? Some how the voice sounded familiar but foreign. Like- Aaa! Although his face was shadowed by the man in front of him, I could still make out an rough outline that told me what I needed to know. Long blond hair, a sharp nose that resembled a hawk and his blazing steel-blue eyes.
'Isn't that-' My sister Maria started to shout the beginning of her sentence, but my mind was too preoccupied of thinking of an escape to continue processing her words.
I must get out of here before it's too late! Glancing around my surrounding, I realised that I had no escape routes.
'Eh, my dearest aunt, I suddenly feel the urge to use the bathroom.' I squished out a lame excuse.
'Now?'
'Yes now! Preferably as soon as possible. I do not want to ruin my perfect dress you see!'
At this exact moment, a servant rushed by, sending a gust of wind in our direction.
'How rude!' My sisters exclaimed.
Great, Maria's lovable comments just attracted the wrong attention.
Four pair of eyes turned towards our little group.
Emerging from the crowd was the devil himself. Except that this devil had blue eyes and wavy golden hair that shone in the bright morning sun.
When I managed a swift curtsy, my sisters, especially the twins curtsied in their best orderly fashion. 'Lord Dalgleish!' Anna exclaimed with Maria close behind, pushing me towards the back to force her way closer to the target. Under normal circumstances, I would of stepped on my dear sister's toes for be such rude creatures. But right now, I was trying to get as much distance between me and this man. But no matter how hard I tried to blend into the crowd I call family, the eyes of Lord Dalgleish managed to find mine.
'Ah, Miss Linton. How nice to see you!'
'Likewise.' Not.
'I see you and your family is taking a morning walk?' He began, his steel blue eyes following my movements like a snake would a mice as the dinner.
'Yes, my lord. Now if you would excuse-'
'Lord Dalgleish!' My aunt popped up beside me, dipping in to a curtsy, while throwing daggers at me. 'I'm sure Miss Linton meant she has plenty of time to spend with you, my lord.'
That ignorant, childish, stupid, stupid, stupid aunt who has jellys-for-a-brain of mine! She's trying to get me killed. Nooooo, help, help, help! Someone help me! There's going to be murder right on this street! HELP. HELP. HELP ME.
'Get in front.' My aunt murmured to me, half pushing, half shoving me.
I inched my body towards Lord Dalgelish, vociferating curses under my breath.
'I see, Miss Linton. Would you like to come for a walk with me?' Lord Dalgleish smiled, showing his perfect white teeth. I only shivered more.
Needless to say, my two twin sisters weren't impressed with me beside a 'handsome' man. 'Your lordship!' Maria shuffled over quickly, followed by Anne and Lisbeth only Ella remained by my side. 'We'd all love to have a walk.' I have never imagined Maria would be a life saver in disguise!
'Miss Linton, Miss Linton and Miss Linton.' Lord Dalgleish smiled again, giving a brief bow and giving a kiss on their hands. To which my sisters nearly fainted at. 'It is a pleasure to meet each of you again. But I'm afraid I must spend some time alone with your sister here.' He spoke, every word like poetry, so different from Mr Ambrose's cold commands. I shivered. If I'm not going to do anything about this, I would probably not see another day.
'Shall we go?' Lord Dalgleish extended his arm, breaking my thoughts.
I swallowed. 'Yes, of course my lord.'
After kissing the back of my hand that sent shivers down my spine, the tall man spun me around and left the company of my family.
Nooooo, save me! Someone! I wanted to scream. But that wasn't exactly the best thing to do at the moment. My family were of no help, and I had no idea where Mr Ambrose is.
This is going to be the death of me.
