"Prompto?!"
"(Y/n)?!"
We stare at each other in shock as we lower our weapons. Can it really be him? ...Yes! It is! My expression soon turns into that of a happy and relieved one.
"Prompto!" I exclaim as I lunge forward and swiftly engulf him in a tight hug. He lets out a sound of surprise at my unexpected gesture. I hope he thinks my hammering heartbeats are from the anxiety I had a few moments ago. After a little while, he proceeds to hug me back. The faintest degree of heat rests on my cheeks. Even in such a serious situation like this, I still can't shake off my feelings.
"(Y/n)? I-Is it really you?" he asks hesitantly. Oh, how I missed hearing his voice! Although, I would have liked to hear his voice in a little more happier tone. But, hey, I'm not going to complain much. At least I'm lucky enough to hear his voice again.
"Yes! It's me," I confirm as I pull away to face him. He looks pretty shocked. "Thank goodness you're safe! We were all so worried about you." I look into his crystal-blue eyes. ...They look different than normal. They look... tired, sad, afraid. I'm surprised at first, but then I remember what Aranea and Ardyn have told me up until this point. I know by now that I can trust Aranea, but not Ardyn. His lips twitch into a smile that contrasts with his eyes.
"You were?" Prompto asks, sounding like he doesn't believe me.
"Of course we were, you idiot! Why wouldn't we be?" I scold. For me, being slightly mean to Prompto is how I secretly express my feelings. Well... to him anyway. I have no idea how other people pick up on it so easily. Maybe I overdo it? And if I do, why hasn't the boy in question realized it, too?
Prompto lowers his gaze down and lets out a nervous chuckle.
"I... guess you're right. Sorry. I guess I've just been away from you guys for a while."
"It's fine. I understand."
Right when silence makes it's way between us, I realize that Prompto's gloved hands are resting on my hips. My heart flutters and begins to increase in speed, my cheeks become even more warm. With the short distance between us, I get the paranoid feeling that he might be able to see my flushed face. I instinctively let go of his shoulders and take a step or two away from him. He then lets go of my hips, leaving me relieved and disappointed at the same time. The warmness of his touch still lingers...
UGH! Enough! This really isn't the time!
"How did you get here?" Prompto suddenly asks, that troubled expression still resting on his features. By the way he said that, it's like he's uncomfortable about me being here.
"Aranea actually helped me," I answer. "She told me where you were, so I came to get you."
His blue eyes widen slightly.
"Aranea... helped you?" he asks, clearly in disbelief. Within the few hours that I've spent with the Dragoon, I've learned that she doesn't offer her help so easily. But, she said that she sees something admirable in me... or something pathetic.
I nod the affirmative.
"Yeah, but that doesn't matter right now. What are you doing here?" I ask him, getting straight down to business, finally. There's evidence to prove that Prompto was here a little while ago, so why did he come back?
"I could ask you the same thing," he points out. I know the guy well enough to know when he's trying to dodge something. That's exactly what he's doing right now.
"I already told you, I came to find you. And as you can see, I did just that. Now, it's your turn to tell me," I say in a firm and slightly annoyed tone. His facial expression is twisted. I've never seen him this uncomfortable. He looks just like a little kid who's conflicted to tell his mom about something he did wrong. It's scaring me now.
