Readers POV
I had been living in the mansion for almost a week. I can't tell you how many times my hands had gotten tired preparing the weapons. No one, except Jeff, seemed to mind me. I would have thought they would be fighting over who gets my head and arms and etc. Even though most of them weren't trying to kill me, they weren't exactly outgoing with me either. Mostly they just ignored me. I must've been too puny for their liking.
Jeff had kept giving me long hard glares. Sometimes I would catch him stalking me or following me. He was acting even more creepy than the rest of the residents in the house. I felt as if he could jump me at any moment.
Walking down the stairs, I shuddered at remembering waking up to some poor boy's screams coming from the next room over, Jeff's room. I noticed BEN Drowned, hovering above the sofa. He was playing videogames. Of course though, I didn't know which one he was playing. He muttered a bored "Hey. ", not even bothering to look up from his game. I awkwardly waved in response, though he probably didn't notice.
I opened the fridge to be greeted with not much edible consistencies. Groaning, I had almost exited the kitchen when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Tim. He handed me a bar of some sort. It looked consumable, so I thanked him and ate it. After a few moments, I felt refreshed and energized. I would have to ask him where he got those, later.
As I entered the cellar, I began preparing weapons as usual. Laughing Jack sauntered towards me. Ah yes, Laughing Jack. He did happen to come down there very often. After all, he told me he was very fond of torture. So he would use a lot of weapons. "Hello, Jack." I greeted. "Hey, kid." he replied. "Which one will it be today?" I asked, referring to a weapon. He stroked his chin with his long, claw like fingers, "Hmmm... I think I'll take the mallet. This kiddie is a particularly nasty one." The tall clown chuckled. I shivered in my mind and gave him the large hammer, not wanting to know the details on what he was going to do to that kid. After a few seconds, Jack slightly smirked, "Hey, kid." "Mhm?" I replied, focusing more on my work. "Careful around Jeff, alrighty?" I paused in my tracks, "Um, so you've noticed..... " I said nervously, "You do know that I haven't done a thing to bother him. He just follows me wherever I go and just stares as if he's planning something.... " My body shuddered at the thought. LJ chuckled, "I know, kid. That's why it's wise to be on your guard at all times. Jeffy-boy can act very......unstable at various moments. " I believed him. LJ chuckled before recalling the time Jeff had sliced him several times in the shoulder and arm, just because he had entered his room without permission. Well, now I knew for sure not to go into his room.As Laughing Jack left, I was just about to continue with my work when Tim came down. I let out an annoyed sigh. Why couldn't people just let me get my work done? Tim seemed to sense the hint of agitation in my voice and paused a bit. I sighed again but with less annoyance, "No, no you can tell me. What is it? " "Well, " he said, "The Operator wants to see you in his study." Oh no. What did I do?
There, I stood, at the study doorway. It was normal size, way too small for the large creature to physically fit through. However I was informed before that Slender's teleportation skills were enough to get through any door, locked or not.
My body took a long pause before entering along with Tim. The room had only one light. I was able to see that there was one steel table with no chairs, considering the light was right over it. There was also a weird TV in front of the table. My mind questioned how this could possibly measure up to a study. As soon as I had entered the room, I immediately felt the heavy dark energy that indicated Slender's presence. Staring up at him in awe, my eyes were locked on his towering head above mine. The ring in my ears grew more intense as I realized he was speaking, although I could not understand him at all. Tim momentarily paused to listen to Slender before speaking, "He thinks it is time to put you into a more advanced level of work." I stared at him in confusion, although he shrugged turned his head to Slender. "Are you sure she should-?" Tim stopped mid sentence. After a long moment had passed, he spoke again "Very well, Sir." He turned to me, "He wants you to be able to go out on missions with others and learn from them, and in order for that to happen, you'd have to be trained by another." The masked man hesitated, "Operator says he's sorry." "Sorry?" I questioned. The masked man nodded and then spoke, "He wishes there were other options, but he had no other choice but to assign Jeff to train you and teach you to avoid all people working for the elite law enforcement. " As soon as they saw my face, Tim quickly added, "He is one of the best in experience with killing and-" "Wait, wait, wait, wait," my voice came out shocked and I took a long pause, "Are you guys just trying to make me..... one of you??" There was a long, tension filled pause. "We just want to train you properly in self defense in case anything happens." Tim added. I let out a scoff filled with sarcasm. After another awkward moment, I finally consented.
It wasn't that I would let myself kill or hurt anyone, I could never bring myself to do it. I wanted to prove that even not following the law would feel better to me than sitting in a boring, old chair, wasting my life away. Right now, I probably sounded crazy. Crazy enough to actually get used to living with a bunch of supernatural beings and psychopaths. I was desperate. I was desperate to make my life worth more than going to work everyday and being loaded with a big steaming pile of stress.
After exiting the room with Tim, I asked him about the TV in there. "Well, he uses it to communicate with us on any electronic device." He said, "His abilities are enhanced enough to do without as much everyday human objects and needs." My head nodded in understanding.
I began to remember that no one here had told me about how Slender appeared or what his past was like. Every time I would bring up the subject, the room would get quiet and someone would change the subject. Even Laughing Jack who was the most approachable towards me would act resistant towards me.
At dinner Jeff glared especially hard at me, as if getting assigned to him was all my fault. As I came up on my room while walking down the hallway, I saw that Jeff had come at the same time. My mind panicked and I did my best not to stare at him while my hand fumbled for the doorknob. His voice interrupted my panic attack mood, "I know I'm gonna have to babysit you tomorrow." He said in his usual gruff voice, "I'm just informing you that it would be wise to try to be as accurate in training as possible, otherwise you won't like having to deal with my bad temper." I shuddered as he entered his room and almost slammed the door. I wonder what I did to really make that guy hate me. Taking his knife in my hands was a mistake, but it was one simple mistake. My mind was convinced that there was something more about me that angered him. Sighing, I too opened the door to my room. I was sure as hell looking forward to tomorrow.
