"Yes, it's going well I just need a little bit more time to- I understand you're on a tight schedule but the reality is that it's never easy hacking into criminal databases so- No, I would not want all of the bones in my body crushed into a fine dust, thank you very much. Mhm, I understand." I ended my call and tossed the disposable phone I'd been using over my shoulder and onto the bed behind me. I huffed and grabbed my neon green Alien brand flash drive from the IKEA desk drawer I was standing in front of. "Anonymous clients and their fucking threats." I ranted to myself. "It's bullshit." I plugged my flash drive into my computer, wheeled over my creaky desk chair, and sat down, curling my legs up and under my body. I situated myself in front of my three computer screens and watched as white lines of code flickered across the blue screens. I reached through a pile of empty soda cans to reach the one I'd previously been drinking before this particularly snappy client had called and interrupted my work, only to discover that it was warm. "Fuck me." I groaned and flipped on the third fan in my bedroom to see if it would help bring the temperature down some. Living in L.A was like that, especially during the summer. Since the soda had turned out to be a bust, I reached for the family sized bag of potato chips I'd started eating just 20 minutes ago.
They were half finished.
After stuffing some chips in my mouth and shucking off my pants (the room was really fucking hot don't judge me), I brushed the chip dust from my keyboard and got ready to work again. Honestly, after spending so much time sitting in front of computers like this, I was surprised I hadn't gone blind or something. The blue light was constantly shining in my eyes, and me being an IT worker at Best Buy during the day (boring, I know, but lowkey enough so nobody suspected my night job), it only meant more time in front of the glowing screen. Chuckling to myself about how macular degeneration was probably already certain at this point, I stretched my fingers, cracked my neck, and delved into the system.
This hack had been incredibly hard so far, and it being that I had only just broken through the first few firewalls after 5 hours of work, I only expected it to get harder. Plus I'd been working out and planning how to hack this for months, so overall it'd taken more than a lot of effort to try and complete this assignment.
But what else could you expect when you tried to hack into one of the most well protected and secretive groups in the country? Maybe even the world?
If you haven't heard by now, and based off of the news reports I'm sure you have, thanks to the director of the FBI, Lee Minhyuk, it's been discovered that a single gang, MX, is in control of nearly 68% of all crime in the country.
68 fucking percent.
How a gang could have that much influence on people I have no clue, but I did know one thing for sure.
Their online security was air tight.
The blue light of my computer shone in my face as I finally got to work, putting my fingers to the keys and typing rapidly. "Firewall V76...order code IGU-882P...I'm in." I spoke aloud to myself, shoving more chips in my face with my eyes never leaving the screen. "Entry to mainframe successful, data collection will begin in 5...4...3...2...1...launch of data collection successful. Click once, twice, three times, entering folder title 'Long Live M476'...file locked...overriding with passcode 5-14-underrated." I continued my hack and opened folder after folder, overriding and bypassing ensnarements of code. "Last file title 'I am what I am'...sifting through the mainframe to bypass the password now and- YES!" The neon green flash drive I had previously plugged into my computer flashed blue and I through my arms up in triumph, fistpumping the air. The flow of data was finally streaming in from all files not just those without a password, and it had only taken me about 6 hours to get it to do so. I laughed almost maniacally, but it was more out of relief than anything. It was nearly 2am, I had work tomorrow at 8, and now that the data was secure I could finally get some rest.
