Unexpected Fate

Chapter 40-Doubts Revealed

The winds blew gently through Bardock's hair and he found himself standing in a dry grassy field all alone with no one around for miles. The skies were a beautiful deep crimson color and he noted the larger of the two suns was setting. The rolling hills seemed far too peaceful to his liking and the fact that there was no one around made him uneasy.

"Where the hell am I now?" Bardock questioned out loud. He was hoping someone would answer his question since he was at a loss of how he ended up here by himself. Of course, he had his preference of not speaking to the dark persona of his son again if he chose to appear. He looked around, yet he saw nothing out of the ordinary.

"You were brought here," a voice spoke suddenly from behind Bardock. He turned and saw Scrix standing there, his short deep chestnut colored hair blowing in the wind. For a short respite, both mortal and deity stood there without a word exchanged while the former's mind attempted to process what was going on. If he was truly brought here...

"Scrix? What? Why the hell are you here now?" Bardock was perplexed. He hadn't expected the God of Strength to appear and was half-expecting this whole thing to be a huge farce.

"What you see all around you is not real," Scrix told the cursed warrior. "I came in order to warn you that your son is slipping ever closer to the edge..."

The very words brought back a wave of memories to Bardock and he recalled his son's power level rising in an unstable manner right when he passed out from the lack of oxygen due to Brolly choking him. He had no idea how much time had passed or if he was even alive. All he knew was his son was struggling against the possible taint and he would be damned if he allowed this to continue.

"What? Damn it... it's because we're in this fucking universe that this is all happening..."

"It would have happened regardless of whether you were on the trials or if you and the others were fighting against Buu..."

"I rather have taken my chances against that monster," Bardock angrily clenched his fists at his sides. "Damn... what happened to me?"

"At this time, you are suffering from the Minort virus," Scrix confirmed.

"Shit! This fucking disease came back to bite me in the ass while all you and the others do is nothing..." Bardock growled. He recalled the disease temporarily disabling his ability to transform into a Super Saiya-jin and hated having that handicap.

"Actually, I am here to do something if you will let me."

"Really? What is it? Another one of your shitty potions?" Bardock laughed coldly. "I doubt that will do any good." The God of Strength said nothing in response this time around. "Fine, whatever you're going to do, just get it over with already."

Scrix placed a palm on Bardock's forehead, which made the cursed warrior wonder what the deity's intentions were. Chanting something in an ancient language, the God of Strength focused his power while Bardock stood there looking off to the side in annoyance. It was then he noticed that his tail fur flickered a reddish shade, but it was so brief that it almost seemed like the lighting of the sun was playing tricks on his sight. He did not feel any different and wondered if this was a waste of time. Scrix pulled his hand away from Bardock as he stared at him in confusion.

"What have you done to me?" Bardock decided to ask the God of Strength. He figured it would not hurt to at least try to get a reasonable answer from him.
