we walked around with the noisy cart

it went

it was hard to push it too

I could tell because when you wanted it to go right,
it went left

when you wanted it to go straight,
it just wouldn't move

but you continued to deal with it

we went into all the aisles and filled our cart up with food

when we walked by the fruits,
you took two apples and held them up to your head like ears

'do I look like a bear'
you asked, making a goofy face

I laughed and nodded

you were the cutest bear I'd ever seen

most of the shopping trip,

I kept saying to buy more of the real food like meat,
vegetables,
and fruits

but you kept saying those are no fun
and that you wanted more of the good stuff like chocolate,
chips,
and candy

I gave up and let you put whatever your precious heart desired

in the end, our cart was sixty percent 'good stuff'
and forty perfect was 'real food'

you were just a little kid
