Morty opened the door and Rick turned to him, saying, "Hey Morty, you r-ree-eady to scream for some ice creaaaaammm!?"

"Haha! Y-yeah, Rick!" Morty said with his fists in the air, clearly feeling the exact opposite way I was. Okay, so maybe not the exact; I was going to a galactic ice cream parlor. "Can- can _ come with us, Rick?"

He glanced at me with an offended look for a split second before telling Morty, "W-well, Morty.." Dammit, this is what I wanted to avoid: Rick making this awkward for me and everyone else. "It depends on if she can scream for ice cream!"

I played along, "I scream! You scream!" And unanimously, the three of us hopped in the space ship and screamed, "We all scream for ice cream!" But Rick decided to belch and add, "Bitch!" Even though I don't know where I stand in his eyes, I couldn't help but laugh. I couldn't shake off this craze I had for him. When I laughed, though, he gave me this look. It seemed so gentle yet so strong. Had I actually hurt him when I turned him down? Or maybe he was regretting what he had said to me? Although I kept trying to find a reason even after we had gotten back home, it wasn't until Rick talked to me in private that I had an answer.

Morty said he was going to 'study' in his room and told us not to bother him. I told Rick I was going to watch TV, but he stopped me.

"Can we talk a bit first?" He asked. I looked at him and he understood that I was listening. "Listen, I'm gonna be honest- I wanted to make things awkward between you and Morty at first. That's why I was acting nice. I knew that he'd be opening the garage door in a few minutes after you came in, and I thought if I had gotten to at least first base with you when Morty walked in, well.. you get the idea. I could tell you were too smart to fall for it when you backed up, so I pushed you away because if my plan wasn't gonna work out, then why bother? So... That's the closest thing you're getting to an apology, so don't ask for one."

"You decided to just give me- no, to give Morty a chance to make a friend." He nodded.

"You're pretty smart, _."

I shrugged. "All I'm doing is trying to fit myself in your shoes."

"You can try." He belched. "Do you wanna watch Ball Fondlers?" I smiled and we went in the living room and sat next to each other. I laughed my ass off the whole pilot episode. Rick looked at me with a smile. "I guess not everything in this universe is bad. Your megaverse can come up with good TV shows... In a TV show." His smile faded.

"Rick?"

"Yeah, _?"

"What do you mean by megaverse? I don't understand this whole universe making universes thing."

"Well, you've seen the episode where I go to the universe I created for my car battery, right?" He sighed. "Well, to your universe, I live in a macroverse." He hunched over and put his hands on his face. "Oh my God, is this what it's like for them? I.. I gotta go tell them."

"Tell them what, Rick?"

"That they're free."

"What about having a working space ship?"

"Fuck everlasting batteries. I'll just deal with making new ones."

"Take Morty with you; I think he'd like that."

He walked to the bottom of the steps and shouted upstairs, "Morty, quit touching yourself, you little idiot!" Real classy, Rick. I can see you in a top hat and a bowtie. "I got somethin' grrruuuhhp- something to- to show you, Morty!"

I heard a door click open and Morty's voice. "Haw geez, Rick, really!? I-i-in front of _? I was actually stud- studying, Rick."

"Yeah, sure, whatever. Just wash your hands and meet me in the garage." Rick went to the basement and I chuckled when I actually heard Morty washing his hands. I could also hear his cheeks searing up as he walked past me, knowing I didn't believe he was 'studying'. After watching another episode of Ball Fondlers, they came back and sat on the couch with me. Morty seemed to be thinking about something, tapping his fingers awkwardly on the arm rest.

"I-I-I'm gonna get back to studying, now.." Morty said. "S-see ya." He quickly rushed back to his room.

"So what did he think, Rick?" I asked him, trying to keep the image of how Morty 'studies' out of my head.

"He seemed proud of me." He said nonchalantly, which seemed a little strange to me.

"How does that make you feel?" He gave me that same look again. The look he gives me when I say something to show I care or that I know something's up. Why is he so surprised all the time? I was trying my best to show him I really did care for him and his family.

"Honestly, I'm not so sure." He took a swig from his canteen.

"Because he doesn't know about the megaverse?" Rick nodded.

"You want a sip, _?" I accepted it, but as soon as it went down my throat I felt a tickle in my throat. I handed it back to him and started coughing. Rick looked at me evilly as he poured out the rest of his drink onto the floor. His drink mysteriously evaporated right before my set of eyes.

But as I should have guessed, it's not his drink; he made that just for me.
