Morty and I went up to his room after dinner to play some video games. When I grabbed a controller, he said, "Actually, I think you'll like this more." He gave me a VR set, and I gasped, "No way, you have virtual reality games!?"

He tried to play it off cool, but it kind of came off as cheesy. "Oh, trust me. It's way better than any game you've heard of." He sat on the bed and pushed in a white cartridge at the top of the helmet. I did the same, and Morty suggested to me, "You should sit on the bed." I did so, becoming more eager by the second to see what this game gear could do. "Alright, th-this is gonna be like daydreaming. Just start thinking about what you want it to be about, and then turn the knob to the- to the left. I'll join after you start." Absolutely giddy, I couldn't help but imagine what it'd be like to go on an adventure with Rick and Morty. After I got the image of sitting in the front seat of the spaceship with Rick next to me, I turned on the simulator. I could actually see what I was daydreaming about in my head! And not only that, but feel and use every other sense- the texture of my seat, the sound of Rick taking a swig from his canteen. "Woah," I said exactly what I was thinking, "That's some cool shit."

"Y-yeah, my grandpa Rick m-made it. O-o-okay, now imagine whe-where I'd be, th-then look there." I turned my head to the back seat. After a second or two, my imaginary Morty stopped picking its nose like a mindless zombie and waved at me. "H-hey, ___! I'm in the game now. W-wait, are we in Rick's car?"

"Uh.. yeah..?" I said awkwardly. "Is... is that weird..? Or lame? Uh, sorry.."

"N-no, it's- i-it's just that that already e-e-exists, yyy-you know?"

"Well, since you guys traveled through dimensions.. I was kinda wondering what kinda places you guys go to and the stuff you do."

Morty sighed. "I know it sounds great and all, but- but it's really not as fun a-a-as you think.." He almost sounds irritated.

"Why not? Isn't it full of danger and excitement?? I wanna feel the rush of fighting aliens, and the curiosity of going to new worlds I can't even imagine, or-"

Morty butted in, without even stuttering. "-Or watching your family get in danger, and always knowing you know nothing about anything, and living in denial that this sorta stuff is gonna get you killed one day just so you can make your grandfather happy and not have him worry over you and- and-"

"Woahhhh.." I rested my hand on his shoulder. "Morty, it sounds like you hang out with your grandpa a lot, so it sounds like you don't have any- I mean- many friends. And that means you don't feel like you have anyone to talk about this to. You need an outlet; I can be that if you need it." Morty disappeared before my eyes. "Morty? Did you leave the game? Morty?" I turned the knob on the specialized VR set to turn off the simulator and took it off. "Morty, what happened?" He kissed me by surprise, but I immediately moved away. "Oh Morty, that's not what I meant by outlet.. Uh.."

"Haw geez, I uh.. I- I really sure did-"

"Miscommunication, yeah.."

"Y-yeah, big time, huh?"

"..Uuuuuuuuuhhhmm...... yyyyeahhh, kinda.. just.. just a little bit, really."

"Wow, I didn't- I thought-"

"No, I can tell what you were thinking, but.."

"Nnnno...?"

"Nooo.." I confirmed. He cleared his throat and nodded.

"W-well, thanks...?"

"Oh- yeah, sure- the outlet thing. Yeah, we're... we're friends, Morty."

"Then I'll.. you know, if- if I need that-- yeah."

"Cool, I think I'm tired now." I said, dying for this awkward situation to end.

"S-ssame here, haha.." Morty sat there mindlessly for a minute, wondering why I haven't gone to sleep yet until it hit him, "..Oh! You- you need a sleeping bag, haha.." He was leaving the room as he told me, "Just- just a second, got- gotta get it.." He left the room and I looked around, at his posters and such. To my surprise, there were wall decorations BESIDES the pornographic images. He had one of those cute school frames where theres a picture for every grade you've finished in school and even a few family photos, from what seems like barbecues, camping trips, etc. Oh, yes, and of course the very normal family trips across the galaxies. Only one of them had Rick, though. Morty came back. "Hey, so uh, since grandpa Rick only used his once or twice, my mom said you could use it. I hope it's not a problem." He also handed me a pillow.

"Not at all." I assured him. I set up my sleeping bag pretty far away from his bed, just to avoid any more awkward interaction. I sighed and pulled the cover closer to my face. That's when I smelled Rick's scent. It was mostly the stench of Hennessey, but I didn't mind; I felt butterflies just knowing he's slept in this. I yawned and smiled. "Goodnight, Morty.." I said, barely able to stay awake. I'm so glad this isn't a dream..
