Alyssa's POV
I woke up to my phone ringing signaling that I was getting a call. I looked around and saw that I was on the living room floor. Memories of last night came flooding back to me as I tried to get up but felt my body ache all over.

'Great I most likely have bruises forming on my arms and face.'
I went and reached my phone and answered without even checking who it was.

"Hello," I said as I tried to sit up but failed as I had a horrible headache and pain all over.

"Alyssa! I need you to come to school early. I need an opinion on a new song I wrote."

"Ashton?"

"Yeah who else dummy" he laughs at my sudden reaction

"Sorry yea just let me get dressed and I'll meet you in 10 minutes"

I hanged up and tried to get up from the floor. When I was finally able to sit up, I went to my room and picked out my clothes for the day. I picked out a tan light sweater with my black high waisted skinny jeans and converse. When I walked into the bathroom I looked at myself and saw all the bruises my dad had left me the night before. I took off my shirt and sure enough, there was more on my shoulders from his grip and on my torso from his belt.

Maybe I do deserve this...
Maybe I'm not good enough...

I sigh and look down at my wrists shaking my head. Not again. I stepped into the shower and started to clean myself up. When I finished I went to my room and put on my clothes. Putting on my shoes on was the hardest since I couldn't really bend down to tie them. I went back into my bathroom and noticed the bruise my dad left on my cheek and I tried to cover it up.

Damn this cheap makeup...It still shows...

I ended up giving up.

I'll just lie to anyone who asks...

I grabbed my backpack, phone, and my keys and walked out not bothering with my hair since I knew I'll end up putting it up in a ponytail at the end of the day. I got in my car and started to drive to school.

As I was driving the song Warrior came on and I just listen to the words as they hit me on a different level...

When I pulled up to the student parking lot, I saw Ashton's black Mustang and went to go park next to him.

Okay Alyssa, it's a different day. Just try to ignore it and smile. You're almost out of here..

I got out of my car and put my earphones in so I wouldn't have to listen to Luke's insults as I walked into the building.

As I walked into school with my head low, I still tried not attracting attention on my face. There weren't that many students considering it was 7 in the morning and school doesn't start for almost another hour.

I got to my locker and as I was opening it, all my books and notepads came falling down destroyed. The pages were either ripped or had writing on it with sharpie. I was was shocked because of all my 3 years of high school they never took it this far. When I turned around there was Luke leaning against the wall across from me.

"Wow Alyssa, some people sure must hate you" as he pushed himself off the wall and started walking towards me.

"Sucks that this had to happen to you doesn't it? I mean you must piss people off to do something like this."

"Oh really? Because from what I remember, you were the reason why all of this started to f.ucken happen" I snapped. I was already in pain, I'm not going to let him add more to it.

"What did you just say to me?" He looked pissed but also a little surprised. I've never had the courage to talk back to him. I was surprised myself but I continue as I got more confident.

"I said thanks to you and that stupid big head of yours, I've been getting picked on every single moment of my life since middle school! It's bad enough that I have problems at home so why keep making it worse Luke?" I yelled. I was fed up him hurting me. I was over it.

"I would watch my mouth if I were you, Alyssa. You don't know what I'm capable of." He looked at me as if he was ready to hurt me. One thing about Luke, he hates being talked back too.

"Leave me alone Luke. I'm over your stupid childish games." I turned around to clean up my locker until I felt someone turn me around and push me against the wall.

"Don't tell me what to do understand? You will never be important in anyone's life. Can't you see? You're nobody and I swear I regret that I had to be around a loser like you growing up."

His words stung as he said them to me. He was a big part of my childhood but the fact that he chose them over me will forever be in my mind.

"Luke stop it! Let me go, you're hurting me." The pressure that he's applying from his grip is hurting the bruises I already have.

"She said to let her go Hemmings!" a voice yell as they push Luke away from me and against the wall. When I looked, I saw that Ashton was the one who did it.

"Awe little Ashton is defending Alyssa? Really Irwin? I never thought you would go as low as to help the loser of the school." Luke said as his other friends were already coming over to see what was happening.

"I said leave her alone. Next time I see you put your hands on her I swear I'll break your nose." Ashton said as he put his hands on me as if he was protecting me from him.

"Dude I can't believe you left us for the loser." the boy with blue hair said as he shook his head laughing as if what was happening wasn't true.

"I know. What happened to 'Bros before Hoes'. We used to be a team" the Asian looking one said as he glared at me. I hid behind Ashton, trying not to make any eye contact with them.

"Yea the keywords being "used to be", I'm done with you guys," Ashton said clearly pissed off. He had his hands balled up into fists. Scared he was going to punch them, I put my hands around his bicept and tugged him.

"Ashton let's go..." I whispered, " I don't want you to get in trouble for something that's not worth it." We started walking down the hall to the music classroom but as I turned my head I can see the guys glaring at me.

"Alyssa are you okay?" Ashton asked me. We got the class and since it was empty we sat down, careful not to hurt myself more than I already was.

"Yea I'm okay, thank you, Ash" I looked at him as I took in his features. I never really noticed how good looking he really was. His blondish-brownish curly hair in a poorly attempted quiff, yet he still managed to pull it off. He was wearing a black and red flannel with a black shirt underneath, his black skinny jeans and red converse looked amazing on him. He even had his glasses on. Which was a rare sight to see since he didn't really liked them but still looked really cute on him.

"No problem Butterfly" he smiled at me as he kisses my forehead.

He's always called me butterfly ever since he saw that I self-harm. When he found out, the week we first met, he drew a butterfly on my wrist saying that if I hurt myself, I'm killing the butterfly which represents him.  We both try to help each other out in any way we can and honestly I couldn't have asked for a better friend. Ever since he's been calling me Butterfly and the nickname has just stuck with me.

I look up to Ashton since he was way taller than me and smiled...

What did I do to deserve him...
