Lana shuts herself out when she's in here.
It's the library, and it's ancient. Dust coating the dark shelves and the librarian was too busy online shopping to clean the place up a bit. After all, the only people in here, are the loners. The loners and Lana Prince.
She sometimes wanders in here, during lunch, when she gets away from people that are considered "friends". She eases in here, with her student I.D and struts down the pathways, looking for a book to emerge and lose herself in. It's the only way she disconnects from reality, even if it's only 30 minutes.
People by now, might be asking for her. No one will check in the library. After all, the cool girl doesn't read.
She had an associate in the library, and it wasn't the 60 year old woman who spent hours and hundreds of dollars online shopping.
He was always in here, with a tray of lunch in his lap and hands on a keyboard. Christopher Mendez. The local gay boy. Now, there was more than one gay boy in Brookridge High, but Chris is the only gay boy who's actually came out of the closet.
Lana pulled out the chair, sitting beside him. His tray of improperly cooked school lunch was ignored on the table, as he lazily turned on the computer that might be even older than the librarian.
"Ah Princess," Chris grinned, folding his arms, "And what are you reading today?"
Lana rolled her eyes, exasperated that he would call her Princess, just because of her last name. "If you must know, it's an autobiography of Sachin Tendulkur."
Christopher narrowed his gaze, "Sachin who?"
Lana blinked, "Don't people in Brookridge read?"
"No," Chris laughed, "You're like the only person who reads for enjoyment."
She sat up straight, "Well, I heard this is a great autobiography so you should give it a r-"
"Princess, you should be reading the autobiography of Tina Fey instead of this random man-"
"Now you just sound disrespectful," Lana gasped sarcastically, pushing back on her rolling chair, thudding against the wall. "Say sorry to Mr. Tendulkur."
Christopher gave a fake smile, "I'm sorry Mr.Tendulkur...that you're irrelevant."
Lana laughed, shaking her head as she opened her book, practically new as most don't even bother grabbing it. Chris was only one the the people she liked in this school, he seemed more genuine than the others, with his sarcasm and honesty.
"So, how was your first week week here at Brookridge?"
"Couldn't have gone better, Chris." She smiled, grabbing the dinner roll from his tray, dipping it in gravy.
"For a skinny girl," Christopher started, as Lana smacked down on the roll, "You sure do eat a lot."
"I only ate a piece of bread." Lana exclaimed, swallowing.
"Yeah...but all this week, you've been eating nonstop whenever I have food around."
Lana shrugged, watching Christophers' dark eyes glint teasingly, "You know Lana...you could be pregnant."
"Or," Lana offered, stealing a slice of turkey, "I could just love food."
Christopher pulled his food close to him, giving her a playful side eye. "Just always use protection, I don't want you getting hungrier than you already are."
Lanas' smile faded, shutting her book.
"Come on, Lan." Chris retorted, "You have had sex before, right?"
Her cheeks warmed up, and Christopher laughed, "No way! One of the hottest girls in this hell is still a virgin? That's a twist."
Lana pushed her shoulders up, "Well...I haven't gotten the chance to do something like that yet."
"Well you have to tonight."
"What's happening tonight?"
"The party, I'm sure you were invited."
"Um...no I wasn't aware there was a party tonight."
Chris mouth slacked open, his tan skin blanching, "Jennifer Hudges didn't invite you?" Lana shook her head, and Chris roared with laughter, "It's because she knows you're prettier than her...she's jealous...you have to go."
"What?" Lana scowled, "I am not going to go to a party that I wasn't invited to."
"Come on Princess," Chris begged, "You'll meet people-"
"I think I met enough this week-"
"It'll be fun! Don't you wanna have fun?"
Lana thought for a second. It would be quite nice to get out of her home, even for a couple of hours. It would be a nice distraction...she just cannot drink too much, or in fact, drink at all.
"Fine," Lana said, laughing, "I'll go, but only if you're by my side, protecting me."
"Oh baby," he chortled, "I'm trying to get laid tonight, I don't know about you."
Lana frowned, "But I don't wanna get laid Chris."
"Then don't let Nick near your drinks, and certainly do not play spin the bottle."
The bell rung, bringing Lana out of her seat, shoving the book in her bag.
"I'll see you after school in the gym-" Christopher said, almost walking out the door before Lana stopped him.
"Wait, what will this Nick do to my drink?"
"Man, gringa," Chris grinned, "Have you ever been to a high school party?"
And the answer was no,
Lana Prince, or as Chris called her, Princess...had never went to a high school party.
And something told Lana,
That tonight could go very, very wrong.
