“Go Emanuel!” I shouted as I saw him run down the field with the ball in his presence. Seeing him run up and down the field made me the proudest mom on earth, to just see him do what he loved.

“Excited aren’t you mom” said Chris who was smiling at my screaming, more like enjoying it. Emanuel wanted to invite Chris to his soccer game since I told him that Chris was a soccer coach and also played at his age all the way to college, Emanuel wanted Chris to see how he played.

“Yea? Says the person who almost scared a four year old screaming at one of the team mates to get the ball” I sat down and turned to Chris still smiling face.

“Yea well they have to learn soon or later” he shrugged looking back at Emanuel play.

“It’s a kid soccer game charmer” I laughed. We turned back to watch the last of the game, Manuel team was tied and if he got a goal then they would take home a gold trophy. It was down to the last play and Manuel had the ball almost made it to the goal but got it knocked from under his feet in seconds; he fell to the ground with the most disappointed look in his face, and in all his life I have never seen that look on him before… it broke my heart more than anything.

“Oh my poor baby” I gasped at him still sitting on the grass as the other team made a goal. The referee blew the whistle signaling the end of the game. Everyone started piling off the bleachers and onto the field to find their kids, me and Chris did the same to only find Manuel in the same spot.

“Hey kiddo” Chris crouched sown in front of Manuel with his hand on his shoulder.

“Im sorry Mr. Chris” Manuel finally said, souring up a confused look on both me and Chris face. I walked over to him and bent down as well so I was leveled with him.

“What are you talking about baby” I asked waiting for an answer.

“Well I wanted to impress Mr. Chris, I thought if I did well that he would be proud of me” he looked up from the ground and looked at Chris with the saddest eyes ever. And at that moment I fell apart, this is where Manuel gets attached and for some reason I don’t know if that’s the best thing ever or the worst. This just stirred up questions into my head.

“Whoa kiddo, that is far from the truth. You little guy made more goals than the teens on my varsity team, so before you think that you disappointed me… think again” his words made Manuel eyes brighten.

“And besides… you shouldn’t play to make people proud, you should play because you love it more than anything” he lastly said with the brightest smile I’ve seen this morning. He and Manuel shared a look that I couldn’t describe or explain but it was something that made me happy.

“Ok you two, let’s go out for some ice cream to celebrate” I interrupted their moment.

“But momma I didn’t win this time” he stood up and took mine and Chris hand as we began to walk towards Chris car.

“Yea you’re right, but you did your best” I winked at him.

“Did you see I kicked the ball in the goal the first half Mr. Chris?” he lifted his head towards Chris smiling, Chris looking the same.

“Yes I did little grass hoper. And may I ask, where did you learn that from”

“From myself, I always go outside every morning to practice while momma is cooking or watching TV” said proudly.
