This is SIN

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." ~John 8:7

For those of you who don't know, I live in modern day Australia.

Safest country for Christians, apparently.

And yet this is where I find we fall.

For you out there who do not  know what is going on in Australia at the moment, you probably don't have any social media. We are undergoing a vote on same sex marriage.

I would like to make it clear right now that I am not, 'homophobic' I am merely against it. I do not have, an irrational fear of homosexuals. I merely am willing to stand up for what I believe, just as many of you homosexuality supporters are.

May I begin with this- Who here has NEVER sinned?

Never

Lied, been proud, been selfish, been greedy, been a gossip, used illegal drugs, over indulged in sex or food or drink, cheated, hated, held a grudge, hurt someone emotionally, hurt someone physically, hurt someone psychologically, felt lust, made excuses, excluded people, judged, envied, idolised, stolen, driven over the speed limit, drunk underage, murdered, or deceived?

And there are many more.

You probably have all heard the story of Sodom and Gomorrah?

Well, my mother peaches sometimes at our church, and she was given Genesis 19. Not a pleasant passage.

You can read the whole chapter, but I will summarise it here quickly.

Lot, (The nephew of Abraham) Is living and working in the hierarchy of a city called Sodom, that is not part of the promised land.

Two angels from God who were sent to destroy the city meet him there and he invites them into his house.

ALL of the men from Sodom (Estimated at 500) came and started bashing on Lot's door, asking him to bring out them men so that they could have sex with them.

Lot refused and went out to speak with them and said that no, they could not, as these men were guests and it was a wicked thing to do.

In desperation he offered them his two virgin daughters instead, but they denied, insisting on it being the two men, the angels.

The angels grabbed Lot and brought him back in and struck all of the men outside blind so that they could not find the door.

They then instructed him to gather all of his family and flee as they were going to destroy the city.

He was led out with his two daughters and wife as his sons in law thought he was joking and they were told again to flee and not look back.

They left, and Lot's wife looked back and became a pillar of salt.

God rained burning sulfur down on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and completely destroyed them as Lot fled to the mountains.

That is the basic summary.

So, in this passage we can see that God shows two clear cases of judgement, that make me stop and think.

Sodom and Gomorrah, homosexual, murderous, evil cities were burned with fire.

Lot's wife, disobeyed and was turned into a pillar of salt.

Both died. Both had horrible punishments.

But these days we would say that one sin was worse than the other, but was it?

What I am wanting to say here is that it is ALL sin. All of it.

Jesus said in regards to those condemning the adulterous woman, "Whoever is blameless before the Lord may cast the first stone." And I say this likewise to you.

Does this mean that we should think homosexuality is great? No. It is a sin and is grievous.

We need to strive against it. Despite what people think, it is a choice to give into unnatural relationships. And it is a temptation. But the same goes for stealing and murder. And we are happy to say that they are bad.

We cannot make exceptions.

We must fight back against the darkness in the world and fight for the light that will remove the darkness.

God be with you as you face your trials and temptations.
