Lance's P.O.V.

I sit crouched behind a bush trying to cover myself in the darkness. I watch as a dark figure approaches and start rolling snow in my hands to form a ball. The figure passes my bush and I quickly stand up and throw my round snow ball at him.

The snow ball hits him between his shoulder blades and he slowly turns around.

"Lance?" Keith glares at me as I give him a crooked grin. Slowly his face breaks into a grin and he makes his own snowball, then throws it at me. "Oh, you're on."

I laugh and dodge his snowball then throw another one of my own at him.

Pidge and Hunk walk by and I accidentally throw a snowball at Pidge, knocking their glasses off in the process.

Pidge growls and walks over to me. They look at me for a second before shoving snow down my back at lightning fast speed.

"Ah, Pidge! That's COLD!" I try shaking my jacket to get the snow out.

"That's what you get for throwing snow at me in the first place," they say, shrugging. Pidge starts to walk away, but I gather up another snow ball and throw it at their back. They whip around and throw their own snowball at me whilst yelling, "FIGHT ME LANCE."

Soon enough we are all having a full out snow ball fight. Keith and I vs Pidge and Hunk. I would like to say Keith and I demolished Pidge and Hunk but in truth none of us were even keeping track of points or seeing how many time we managed to hit each other.

Eventually a teacher comes and ruins all our fun by yelling at all of us for breaking a school rule which is; "The snow stays on the ground." How boring.

I resisted the urge to throw snow at the teacher as he lead us back inside.

Keith and I trudge into our rooms, soaking wet and take off our jackets.

"Well that was fun," I say cheerfully as I find clothes to change into.

"Yea, it was fun until someone shoved me into a pile of rock hard snow and a teacher came and yelled at all of us for a solid 5 minutes," Keith mumbles curtly.

"Aww, are you gonna go crying to Mommy because you have a boo-boo?" I mock him in baby voice. He bristles, but doesn't give any other reaction.

I change into dry clothes and then flop onto his bed. A few minutes later he walks out of the bathroom in clothes that looked exactly like the one he was wearing before except these were dry.

"What happened to your mother anyways?" I ask curiously. "You never talk about her."

"It's none of your business," he growls.

"Wow. If you react like that she must be a really bad mother."

Keith punches me. Not hard enough to break my nose, but hard enough to make my nose bleed.

"DUDE! What the he-!" I start to say but he grabs me by my collar and say angrily, "Don't you dare insult my mother. She was a great women."

I stare at him confused for a moment. "What do you mean 'was'?"

Suddenly the realization hits me, but before I can apologize Keith is already out the room and has slammed the door shut.

Crap. I really messed up this time, didn't I? I should have known with the way he reacted when ever someone mentioned his mother. Or the way he kept a picture of her in his wallet at all times. I should have known...

I should have known that his mother was dead.

I sigh guilty and look out the window at the night sky as rain starts to pour down. It sure was dark...

Wait... Isn't Keith afraid of the dark?

A/N: OOOooohHHHhhh, we're about to get some of Keith's back story...
