Keith's P.O.V.

At first I walk slowly and then before I know it I start running. As if somehow I will be able to out run my memories.

Memories of my mother.

Memories of her death.

Of her murder.

I sit crunched up in a closet.

No.

My mother screams in terror.

Not again.

The sound of a gunshot... Nothing to be seen in the darkness.

Please...

Blood seeps in from under the closet.

I let out and anguished cry and punch a nearby tree. I don't want to relive those memories. Not again. I've seen them enough. Every time I close my eyes. Every time someone mentions my mother. Every time it's just a little too quiet.

I shudder and take a deep breath. I try focusing on something else...

And that's when I realize that I was walking along an empty road. And it was dark. Really dark. And not a single person was in sight.

I was lost.

I panic and turn in a full circle. I walk forward a bit and then hear a soft rustle from somewhere nearby. I stop walking and squeeze my hands nervously.

Okay, Keith. Just calm down. You can do this. Go back the way to came from. You can do this.

A street light flickers above me. The whole street is silent. Too silent...

My mother screams in terror.

I stomp my foot on the ground, trying to make some noise and get rid of the horrible memory. The sound echoes through the street and then it goes back to silence.

I gather up my courage and begin to walk back towards the way I think the school was. I wipe my hands on my pants to get rid of the sweat and walk with loud stomps, as if the stomps will get rid of any monsters lurking around the corners of any stores.

A hand touches my shoulder and I whirl around, my fist already flying in the air. The person catches my hand before it can hit him.

"Woah, Keith. Chill," Lances says. Lance? He came here too...?

"LANCE!" I say a little too excitedly. I calm myself down and continue. "What are you doing here?"

He blushes a little. "Well I came to get you... you know, with you being afraid of the dark and all." he rubs his neck nervously.

He came to get me? that may be one of the- the-

"That's one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me," I whisper softly.

"Anything for my roommate." Lance gives me a playful punch on my arm.

"Thank you, Lance." I notice that his nose still looks a little red. "I'm sorry about punching you. I overreacted."

"It's fine... I'm sorry about your mom. I didn't know."

I don't reply but give him a smile.

"The schools that way. You're going in the wrong direction." He adds and points towards the direction I had just came from.

"Oh, right. I knew that," I mumble, slightly embarrassed.

Lance laughs and leads the way, with me right beside him. Now that he is here, I no longer feel afraid of the dark or silence. The silence was oddly comforting with him here.

After 5 minutes, Lance speaks up, "So- if you don't mind me asking- how did your mother die?"

Part of me wants to not tell him, but I decide it's about time. "She was murdered. When I was 9."

"That's horrible!" Lance says in shock. He glances at me and then asks softly, "Why?"

"I- I dunno... The police never found out who killed her. And if they did, I was never told."

"I'm so sorry Keith. I shouldn't have asked."

I shrug. "She was a great person. She always used to give to charity and was so loving and kind. She didn't have any other family and never knew my father. After she died I-" my voice cracks and I can feel tears forming at the corners of my eyes. I continue in barely a whisper. "I don't think I ever fully recovered."

A tear rolls down my cheek and i brush it away quickly, hoping Lance won't notice.

Lance stops walking and turns to me, wrapping his arms around me tightly. I sniff and hug him back, allowing a few more tears to escape my eyes.

"Thank you, Lance. For being so kind to me even if I was a jerk."

He doesn't reply but I feel him start to run his fingers through my hair.

I rest my head against his shoulder and for once, in a very long time, I let my self feel attached to another person.

A/N: I REALLY enjoyed writing this chapter so I hope you enjoyed reading it as well! This would be a great spot to end the story but I still have a few more ideas for this story, so I'm not quite done yet ;)
