Jack
The colorful wallpaper and endless supply of nice nurses had lost their affect. No longer enterested in the same toys he'd played with all week, Jack Hotchner decides that today he will go exploring.
He had heard Aunt Penny say something about Emily being one floor above him. Emmy was awake he was told but for some funny reason they won't let him go see Daddy, Emmy, or the new baby.
Uncle Derek had taken to calling the baby turnip head. Jack doesn't understand this but he does know that sometimes the baby gets to see Emily. Well Jack feels like it should be his turn to see them too.
Jack truly hated the little gown, or dress as he called it, that the hospital supplied so Uncle Dave brought him some big kid clothes.
Dressed in his favorite T-Rex shirt and light up sketchers, Jack prowls the hospital floor searching for an elevator.
He finds the elevator and smiles proudly. A big number 2 by the elevator door must mean he's on the second floor and if daddy and Emily are just one floor above that means they're on the third floor!
Jack pushes the up button on the little keypad and waits patiently.
He wonders what the baby is doing. Does the baby like HotWheels? He likes HotWheels. What about soccer! Jack loves soccer. Daddy teaches his soccer team. They always win!
When the doors open Jack smiles at the only occupant in the elevator," Kimberly!"
He embraces the teen. "I didn't know you came here!"
Kimberley is more than Jack's favorite babysitter she's his personal cheerleader for every soccer game. If daddy isn't there you can bet Kimberly is there to make up for the support.
"Hey," she picks him up and inspects his few cuts and bruises," how are you feeling?"
Jack, not enterested in her question, worms his way out of her arms and shows her light up shoes instead. "Look! My uncle Dave got them got me!" He stomps a few times and beams up at Kimberly.
"Jack.." Kimberley looks wearly at the small boy," what are doing wondering the halls?"
Jack puts his hands on his hips," I'm not wondering! I'm going to see Emmy, Daddy, and the baby!"
Kimberley, aware of the genetic stubbornness that the Hotchner's have, takes his hand," well then you better stay close."
Jack takes her hand and nods," I will!"
David Rossi
Leaned back in on of the chairs the hospital provides Rossi had fallen asleep.
He seats up and groans as his back and neck crack under the new pressure.
"Morning sunshine."
After two weeks with no sign of waking Aaron Hotchner greats his old mentor with a sarcastic remark.
"Good to see your eyes for once," Rossi yawns scratching the back of his head," nice change of scenery."
Rossi stands and Hotch grabs his arm," Emily? Jack? The baby?"
Rossi in turn takes Hotch's arm," Jack's doing great." Rossi pulls his arm away slowly," and maybe later today, now that you're finally awake, we can get you a wheel chair and you can go see little turnip head yourself."
Hotch's face scrunches up in confusion. He let's out a weak cough and tries to seat up," wanna go-" he doubles over and coughs a few more times.
"Aaron?" Rossi puts his hand on Hotch's back and tries to steady him as wet coughs wrack his damaged body. "I'm calling a nurse."
Hotch grabs his arm but can't get the words out to stop Rossi so Rossi pushes the button anyway.
The nurse comes in quickly, Rossi recognizes her from all her other frequent stops in this room, and moves straight to the IV port in Hotch's hand. "I'm going to give you a light sedative, Agent Hotchner." She promptly ignores all his attempts to tell her he's fine and pushes her line through.
The coughs keep coming and the nurse waits patiently for them to subside. As soon as Hotch is back to laying down she leaves with a curt nod.
"I didn't need that," he whispers feeling the affects of the seditive.
Rossi seats back down in his chair and takes Hotch's hand,"you with me?"
His eyes are threatening to shut but he mumbles a yes anyways.
"You've got a kid waiting for you, Aaron. Don't you want to hold him?" Rossi squeezes his hand to gain his full attention.
Hotch's eyes open," 's a boy?" Hotch almost losses his grip," gotta... Emily."
Rossi pats his hand," I know, son. You'll see Emily soon enough."
Jack
"Kimberley? Jack?" Emily's delightfully confused at her new visitors.
"Emmy!" Jack runs for Emily's bed and climbs up the side gracefully.
"Hey buddy," she hugs him tightly. All week all she could do was worry about Jack and Aaron and now having Jack in her arm's she feels grounded.
"Emmy," Jack settles himself on her bed," can we go see the baby? And daddy?"
Jack always liked Emily because where Jess would deflect his questions or not answer fully Emily always answered fully and helped him understand.
"Jack, our baby came out to soon and so he has to stay in a room kinda like yours. Until the doctor's say he can come out." Emily brushes her hand through Jack's soft hair. "But... I would love to go see Daddy with you. I haven't seen him yet either."
Pneumonia is not something you want to catch in a hospital.... that's all I'm saying.
In the next chapter we're going to get a good hello from Emily's mom, Sean, and a very hard choice for Emily very soon.
