Chris paced his bedroom. Wondering if he should text Josh or not. He had a really bad feeling for some reason. But he couldn't figure out why.
He picked up his phone.

Chris: Hey Josh, are you still coming to the treehouse??

He shut his phone off, waiting for Josh to reply.

A few minutes later, his phone vibrated.

Chris quickly picked up the phone and turned it on to see if Josh had said anything.

Message failed to send.

He sighed loudly, and checked his wifi. He had all of his bars, so why didn't it send? He tried again.

Chris: Josh? Are you okay?

Message failed to send.

At that moment, Chris started to get irritated. Why weren't his messages sending? He just decided to go to Josh's house instead.

Chris stepped out of his room, and walked down the stairs to his parents' room. He poked his head in. He saw his mom laying in her bed.
"Mom," Chris said loudly, in case she was sleeping.
"Yeah?" she answered.
"I'm going to see Josh, I'll be back later."
"Alright, be safe."
"Will do," Chris replied, and headed outside.

Chris was about halfway down his road. He lives right next to the highway. He sees a fire truck speed in the same direction. Followed by an ambulance. Both of the vehicle's lights and sirens were on. He gets even more worried, and pulls out his phone to text Josh again.

Chris: Hey Josh, a fire truck just went by...are you okay??

Message failed to send.

God dammit! Chris thought, about ready to throw his phone.

Then a police car drove by, in the same direction as the fire truck and ambulance.

He sped up his pace until he was sprinting to Josh's house. Hoping it was just a coincidence, hoping that Josh was okay. Forcing himself to think that Josh was okay.
But deep down, he knew Josh wasn't okay.
