Chapter 7: The Reckoning

A headache. That's all Midnight felt when she woke up. A massive headache. Along with a sense of whiplash.

She gave a throaty groan as she attempted to open her tired eyes. Eyelids fluttered as they tried to adjust to the blurry, dark light around them. Sighing, she grunted as she struggled to sit up, looking around to see she was still in the same truck her brother had snapped her neck in.

"Oh, she lives."

Midnight lazily turned her head to see Rebekah leaning up against the exit of the truck bed. Turning to her right, she saw Stefan was unconscious, no doubt her brother's doing as well.

Midnight groaned as she rotated her sore neck. "Was that really necessary?"

"Of course it was. You've been keeping your sister a secret from us and now you must pay the consequences."

Midnight stood shakily and raised a brow at the blonde. "Can you blame me? She's family."

Rebekah frowned. "And what are we?"

Midnight was silent as she looked over to Stefan. "Where is our dear brother? And Rudy?"

Rebekah rolled her eyes at the latter. "With any luck, ripping the cow's bloody head off."

Midnight gave a pout. "Hey! She may be a bit chunky on the hips but she's no cow."

Rebekah sneered. "Maybe I'll rip them off to show you the truth."

Rebekah didn't get to breathe before she was tackled to the ground with Midnight on top of her, her eyes glowing and teeth bared, hand wrapped around her neck.

"You're gonna wish you didn't say that," Midnight sneered.

"You really do love her, don't you?" The blonde choked out, struggling against the wolf's grip.

"Of course, I do. She's my sister."

Rebekah stopped fighting for a moment, giving Midnight a sad look. "We were sisters once."

Midnight's expression softened slightly, giving Rebekah enough time to kick her off and slam her into the truck, grabbing a crowbar from the side.

"Consider me jealous," Rebekah coughed, stabbing Midnight's abdomen with the metal rod.

The hybrid groaned as she clenched her jaw, not allowing herself to scream. She grabbed Rebekah by the neck and quickly snapped it, the blonde falling to the ground dead. Midnight hissed as she touched the rod, slowly pulling it out with a small gasp.

Midnight sighed in relief as she dropped the rod, feeling her wound start to slowly heal. She turned to see Stefan still unconscious. He probably wouldn't be awake for a while. She climbed back into the truck and quietly whistled.

"Rudy, buddy. You here, baby?" She called softly, knowing the small pup hated loud noises.

She heard a small whine and rustling of metal. She turned to her left to see a small box stuck under a blanket. She quickly walked over and took the blanket off, smiling as she saw he was all right, jumping in his small crate.
