Unveil the Truth

I breathe in and out, trying to calm myself down. I had no idea what Matt Foyld had to unveil to me and the curiosity had gotten to me. After avoiding my gut instinct for almost three days, I told myself that I had to meet him. First, I wanted to tell Harper about it. But he was a little awkwardly busy since the day we met. This further added to my uneasiness. My gut said that there was definitely something wrong and only Matt knew about it. Thus, I sat in this really odd bar, which was half empty and smelled of pineapple. I loved pineapples when I was little but you start disliking some things gradually as you grow up right.

I was moving my finger around the handle of my coffee cup when I saw Matt make an entrance in the bar. He had jet black hair, which was always set back perfectly. Any girl would fall for his breath taking, grey eyes and his muscles veins were a treat to stare at. As he settled himself in front of me, I noticed that I was staring again. I dropped my gaze and sipped on my coffee.

"So, you ordered without me?" Matt said causally. I was impressed at the way he began a conversation so normally like I had left no chance of insulting him.

"I needed coffee to make my brain work a bit and you are 22 minutes late," I frowned.

"Well, you will be needing a lot of coffee then.. around 10 cups per day," Matt sounded serious and I had to look up at him.

"What is it that you know and how are you so darn sure that it will leave me stressed?" I tried not to make it all sound bitchy but it did.

"Wait," Matt pointed a finger towards me and called the waitress first.

"Heyyy Matt, you here afta soo looongg mayn," the waitress smiled at him with all her teeth out.
Great, I thought. Even the waitress has been played by him.

"Thanks for the warm welcome Linda," Matt smiled back at her. "I would like a baked omelette, you know how I like it and latte please."

"It will be here in 10 minutes," saying this Linda disappeared. That was quite rude I thought. She didn't bother to ask me if I wanted something.

"So, the other day in college," Matt began but I cut him off.
"No college, nothing. I want the truth right away. No roaming around the town or telling me tales," I blurted out.

Matt looked annoyed. Maybe frustrated.
"Fine! Harper Anakins is married or he got married the day you last met him! You like things straight right? Here it is and oh yeah, for the record I was taking it slow so that I can tell you about how I know all of this but your choice!"

I stared at Matt Foyld like I had just seen a ghost. I couldn't speak, move myself or even blink. Out of reactions, my head started to swirl around in confusion. Maybe my silence made him think that I needed a clarification because he went on.

"Look, that day at college. I was infuriated at the fact that you didn't pay much attention to me. I loved your eyes and the way your hair swung along as you walk. I started following you after college and that is when I saw you with this guy."
He looked at me to make sure that I wanted to listen. I just nodded to allow him to carry on.

"Anyways, I was enraged again but I somehow decided that it was non of my business. I called my friends and we decided to go for gaming. I still waited outside the coffee shop you both were sitting in and then I followed you home."

He stopped, searching for emotions on my face but I was clearly blank. I just kept telling myself to not cry in front of him.

"I DID NOT follow Harper but he got a phone call and he was cursing so loudly. He kept saying that I love her and I won't do it. I thought he was about to do something to YOU. So I followed him and he stopped by at a church where his mother was begging him to wear the suit and get married. I remember her saying your name too."

For minutes ahead, Matt and I sat in silence. I looked at him, then at my coffee and then I stared outside the window blankly. Why am I trusting him, I kept asking myself.

"I think I need to call Harper," I said with an emotionless voice.
"I think the same," Matt replied with utter kindness.

I stared at him to find any trace of lie hidden in his eyes but there was none. But maybe he was just playing me.
"Can you do me a favor?" I asked him suddenly.
"Sure, anything?"

Matt kept waiting for my answer and I sat there waiting for my mind to approve of what I was about to do....
