"I'm a what?" I asked.

"A witch" the man said.

"And how in the world do you know this?" I asked.

"Hermione!" Mum exclaimed, "Be nice".

"I am from the Ministry of Magic" the man replied.

"And what does me being a witch have to do about this Ministry" I asked.

"Witches and Wizards have their own school where they learn magic" he continued, "It's called Hogwarts, and the term starts on September 1".

"Wow" I said.

"Here is your acceptance letter. I now much speak to your parents about your school supplies" he said whilst handing me a letter made up of thick parchment. I took this as a hint for me to leave, so I grabbed some leftover Apple Pie and went to my room.

When I finished my Apole Pie, I opened my letter. The first piece of parchment read:

HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock

Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. Of Wizards)

Dear Hermione,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

Term begins on 1 September.

I then opened the second page, which read:

HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

UNIFORM:

First year students will require:

Three sets of plain work robes (black)

One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear

One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar)

One winter cloak (black, with silver fastenings)

Please not that all pupil's clothes should carry name tags.

OTHER EQUIPMENT:

1 wand

1 cauldron (pewter, standard size 2)

1 set glass or crystal phials

1 telescope

1 set brass scales

Students may also bring, if they desire, an owl OR a cat OR a toad.

PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS

ARE NOT ALLOWED THER OWN BROOMSTICK
