Heavy language. (might seem weird bc i changed the last chapter last minute.)
Nathan really knew that he messed up. He'd snuck around to see who'd his react and he regrets everything. The sound of the slap replayed in his head. He ran from the sight before either of them saw. Leaving the convention center, he took a cab back to the hotel.
-
Preston and Josh entered the hotel room in a panic. They haven't seen Nathan since that afternoon in the convention center.
"You were right. I'm done." Nathan confessed.
"Good call. All we have to do is tell Stacy. Hopefully, she won't be too mad." Josh hoped.
"I fucked up. I really did." Preston and Josh tensed up. Nathan cursing was a rarity- he only did so when it was dire. They watched the boy flail his arms. Their worry intensified.
Preston navigated the anxious builder to a seat and looked him in the eyes,"It's okay, Nathan. She's a reasonable person. She'll probably laugh it off then you'll tell him the truth." Nathan's eyes soften. It was evident that he was about to burst into tears.
"But I've never lied to her. I never lied to her friends. I didn't mean to," he whispers.
"Look, it was our fault. We pressured you. We'll take the blame." Josh persisted, earning a nod from Preston.
"But. What he hates me? What if all her friends hate me? What if they tell everyone then Stacy hates me? Am I overthinking this? It'll be just like high school all over again." Nathan's mind always went to the worst case possible. He'd suffered through severe anxiety. Though he had plenty of friends, he worried about their thoughts- if he came off too strong, he was rude, annoying, or anything else irrational. He couldn't help it. His therapist always had to rationalize his behavior.
"No Nathan. Don't think like that. Stacy will still love you, okay?" Preston reassured. Nathan proceeded to lay on the bed.
"Imma just lie in bed. Tell Stacy that I went out to the Target." They watched him tuck himself into the sheets. They slowly left the room when Stacy appeared from the elevator.
"Hey guys, do you know where Nathan is?"
"Picking up snacks from Target." Preston casually says."Why? I have plenty of Joey's room."
"Josh here is too picky and needs fat-free snacks."
"LOL. You're one of those?" Stacy laughed. "Just kidding! Tell him to text me when he returns."
"Why?" Josh asked.
"Because you're the closest one."
-
Nathan picked himself up from the bed. He couldn't bring himself to face Stacy. He'd have to tell her that he was too sick to get out of bed. He decided to tell her tomorrow- the last day of Minecon. Nathan didn't want to ruin her vacation. He slowly bowed his head at the thought but raised it when he heard the door. He feared it was Stacy, as he gave her a key, but it was only his two comrades.
"Hey," Josh sat his bed. "You okay?"
"I'm fine." Nathan quickly glanced at the clock on the bedside table. It read 7:50. "Maybe we should order dinner."
They heard a faint knock on the door. Nathan groaned and laid back down. Preston went to get it.
"Hey, Preston. Is Nathan there? He never texted me." She peered her head but Preston quickly blocked her view. "What's up? Where's Nathan?" She continued to find a view through the high schoolers attempt of blocking. She grew suspicious.
"He's sick. Very sick. Could get you sick too." Preston lied. Stacy's eyes frowned. It just didn't seem like him.
"What's going on? How'd he get sick?"
"He's got the flu. He had it before but he thought it'd go away."
"Move so I can see him," Stacy demanded.
"No can do. He's contagious. You see were with him because unlike you, were not a featured creator. You have panels and people to meet. Don't want you getting sick."
"Okay. Tell him to text or call me." She gave up- it all just seemed weird to her. He didn't seem sick. As much as she wanted to rip the door open to see what was going on, she knew she had to respect him. She walked back to her and Joey's room. He peeked his head from the restroom.
"You ready for dinner? Get your boy toy?" Joey asked, hands full of product."Yeah. I will be soon. AND Nathan is sick so he can't make it."
"Oh wow." It came as a surprise to Joey.
"Yeah. He's been really weird lately. First, I saw him and Graser talking then he left to Target for no reason and now he's sick. You don't just get sick out of nowhere I don't know what's going on."
"Maybe he has a surprise for you. Or he's just sick." Joey smiled.

Throughout the day, Stacy tried to ignore the fact that Nathan hasn't texted her much except for 'don't worry I'm fine' last night. Tonight she'd finally get closure since everyone was going to Disneyland to relax from all of the chaos. Since they already bought tickets, he had to go, sick or not.
It was the middle of the night when Stacy got a call. Joey was long gone but she decided to take the time to read through emails. It was from Nathan. She answered the phone, neatly forgetting to breathe.
"Hey, I'm outside your room." Without an answer, she left her bed to meet Nathan outside her room.
"What are you doing up? I thought you were sick. I was worry-"
"I wasn't." He's quiet- quieter than usual.
"What happened? How?" Stacy began to tense up. She wasn't at all prepared for this.
"Allow me to explain completely before asking questions." Stacy nodded. She just wanted her Nathan back. "I've always been intimidated by Graser. He's known you for longer. You probably talk to him more. He's funnier. He's cooler. I always felt some kind of competition against him. So when he asked me for advice to ask you out, I took advantage of it. I gave him stupid and terrible advice to 'get' with you. I knew they wouldn't work but he fell for it. I noticed how bad it got yesterday when he looked so devastated. I feel so bad and I'm so sorry. I was going to wait until after the convention but I didn't want to hold it from you any longer."
Stacy stood there, trying to understand the words the tall builder had just said to her. They stood there for a minute, not knowing what to say.
"I'm tired, Nathaniel. I-I'm going to head to sleep. See you tomorrow." Stacy staggered. She slowly turned around and went into the bedroom. Nathan stood at the door.
"What have I done?" he whispered, as he saw the light under the door go off in the room.
