My foot connects with the gravelly texture of the road beneath as I step out of the car. My eyes immediately going up at the towering building in front of me. Principal Williger is walking down the steps, her formal dress matching the ferocity of her feathers. She ignored my bewildered look, handing me a clear folder with a bunch of papers inside.
"You have a very beautiful school," I say, taking a large breath. "And large. Very large."
"Why thank you Mr. Quince. I take much pride in it, please do me a favour and spend your time here wisely," she says and I nod along. "In the folder I have just given you contains your classes and timetable, your locker number and combination, the key to your dorm room and includes a map of the school."
The sun is setting over the school, giving the campus an airy feel with the windows simmering an orange light. The buildings are tall and lined with old brick. The roofs peeked with black tiling. The grounds are huge with long fields, the entire campus surrounded in thick forest.
"Dinner is at seven and curfew is ten-thirty for non night class students," Principal Williger says.
"Who's in the night class?" I ask
Ebony gives me a look and I nod, I can probably guess who exactly the night class would be for and I know I shouldn't be surprised but I'm still new to this... World.

I go to the cafeteria like expected and besides it being the nicest looking cafeteria I had ever seen, it still worked like every other cafeteria full of students. Everyone had their groups, I couldn't blame them really. It was like almost halfway through the year, they obviously have made friends by now. Yet by being almost halfway through the year, that left me... Friendless. Every table seemed filled with people, none who even seemed to notice me. I couldn't blame them for that either, I wasn't really being noticeable. In a fit of shame and panic I just wished to be invisible and get through the evening.
I found a table, a fairly clean one at that. I looked around for a moment but everyone seemed to be invested in their group chatter. It was the moment that I was going to delve into my carrots that a thump sounded from in front of me. I look up and three figures sit around me. All equally strange in their own nature, I wonder what compelled them to sit with me.
"Hello," I say awkwardly as they all stare at me.
"Sooo-" the blond girl says. "Are the rumours really true?"
"What rumours?" I say immediately, wondering what could possibly be going around after having only arrived here five minutes ago.
It's the black and purpled haired one that speaks next. "That you were snogged by an octopus lady."
I look down to my plate, cursing at whoever could have told these people. I wonder how many people know! Does anyone even care? I've barely even been here and they know about that.
"Um- well... I don't really remember," I say, fiddling with my thumbs. "I was kinda knocked out... And drowning."
"I heard she was old, like grandma old," the black haired one says.
"Guys that enough," the boy says strictly.
Leo immediately notices him. He was built in a lean way with mocha tanned skin. He had bright blue eyes with the contrast of dark hair, shaved on both sides in a cool looking style. He had piercings in his ear and a strand of his dark hair was dyed a vibrant blue. Not many people wouldn't even notice but he had a sliver of his tattoo peaking out of the sleeve of his t-shirt but not enough to make out what it was.
"I apologise for these knuckle heads," he says, voice smooth and deep. "I'm Thoman Phelps."
I shake his hand. "Leonard Quince but people call me Leo."
"Most of us heard what happened to you. You must be going through a tough time, with what happened to your friend and all," Thoman said.
"Yeah, Brandon. He was my roommates hook up that night, I barely knew him," I said, realising his eyes were a very strange blue that seemed to change shades. "But thanks."
"Don't mention it, I can understand what your going through."
"Are you a gypsy too?" I ask, feeling a little too excited.
He chuckles. "No but close. Merman."
I laughed. "Seriously?"
Thoman with a small smile on his lips, takes his glass of water and pours the liquid onto his hand. I watched with wide eyes as the skin began to shine, catching the light in a shimmer of blue and green. I notice the small detailing of delicate scales. He wasn't joking, he was literally a merman.
"That's amazing," I say.
"My name is Sapphire Lilker," the one with dark hair says. "I'm an Elemi. I can control and become the elements."
She clicks her fingers together and I watched as flames encircled her hand in orange light. I wonder why she doesn't burn when I should be wondering why this is even possible at all. She clicks her fingers again and suddenly her hand is as hard a rock. One more click and it goes back to normal.
The blonde one is next to speak. "I'm Alice Thread. I'm the spirit of a tree."
I looked at her with raised eyebrows but sure enough her hand was reaching out and he fingertips grew like branches. They reached out to stroke my cheek and I could feel the bark against my skin. She giggled before retracting her branches, blushing as she held her hand.
"You are all so cool," I say nervously. I'm not sure how I'm meant to be reacting, I don't want to offend them. "Sorry, I'm a bit bewildered."
"Leo, this school is full of people who are going through change," Thoman smiles, noticing my nervousness. "There is nothing to worry about."
I'm distracted by his beautiful smile, the one that reached his beautiful blue eyes. He had two rows of pearly white teeth. It spread from ear to ear and looked positively cute. So cute that I could stare at it forever... And I would have done so if it hadn't been for a loud chatter coming from the other side of the room. I glanced over at the disruption, the crowd rowdy and clustered. I immediately noticed their pale skin, red eyes and even their fangs flashing as they laughed loudly.
"Who are they?" I ask
"Jay's gang of vampires," Sapphire says
"Vampires?" I said, wide eyed.
"They can be a bit hot headed and cocky at times," Alice says with a scowl before she turned to me with a smile. "But you have nothing to worry about Leo, they're in the night class with the werewolves. We never really see them that often besides at dinner."
I nod. Looking back at the group with thinking much about it. I accidentally catch the eye of one of them, staring into his terrifyingly red eyes. He seemed different then the rest, more calmed and mature. He was tall, wearing tight black jeans and a black blazer making him look skinnier than he actually was. He had light blonde hair that was slicked to the side. He didn't smile. This made me frown for some unknown reason and soon our staring contest was cut short as he left the room. I was left sitting in my seat bewildered yet again. I look back to my food in a daze, the conversation around me was muffled as it reached death ears. In my daze, I failed to notice Thoman's concerned look in my direction.
