Chapter 4:

I awoke to the sound of rain pattering against my window. Grey clouds looming, filling up the sky. I had school so I knew I needed to get up but really I just couldn't face it. But, I got up and got ready. Jane had left already so I got all my school stuff sorted out. I had a quick read again of the diary, incase I missed anything out the first time and I left the house. Just before I did I found some letters in the doorway. I picked them up and gave them a quick scan read. Jane...Jane....Jane...Me. I went and sat on a chair in the kitchen and open the letter. It was from Dad. He was just wondering how I was and if I would be coming back to him anytime soon. Did he know? Had Kayla maybe told him about her baby?. No, why would she, she hated my dad. I dismissed the letter and walked back over to the door and left.

I put up my umbrella and started walking. I passed the old house. A part of me just wanted to walk straight past it but another part wanted to look at the flowers. I walked up the pathway to the house and looked down at the flowers surrounding the doorway.

They were all so beautiful. And, the rain falling onto them gave them a certain sparkle. Twinkling though there was no sunlight. I could feel the tears welling up. The petals swayed blissfully in the wind. I just stood, staring. I wasn't sure what to do. I couldn't face school, not right now, nott when I had so much to find out. Then I felt a hand rest on my shoulder. I turned to find Tommy standing behind me.

'They look really pretty today.' He said. I nodded and we started walking to school. We walked in silence, both of us deep in thought. I turned my head to Tommy and tried to start up a convosation.

'Have I missed much?' I asked, smiling up at him. He looked back at me.

'Not really. Nothing has happened this past year.' He said, I could tell he had other things on his mind. No doubt things about Kayla. I didn't want to pry so I left him to it. When we entered the school gates I waved Goodbye to Tommy and headed over to the front office. The office women waved me straight though and I went over to knock on the Head Teachers door. It was the same as before. In fact, the whole front office hadn't changed a bit. I heard the all familiar gruff voice of the Head.

'Come in'. I open the door cautiously. I had always hated entering this room, Mr Grifin was looking at his computer screen. He swivelled round in his chair to face me as I carefully closed the door behind me.

'Well, well, well.' He began smiling at me. 'If it isn't the return of Holly Carter.' He continued. He motioned for me to sit on the chair opposite. As I did so he continued. 'I honestly didn't think I'd be seeing you back here. I've put you back into your old class, you know for a bit more comfort.' He looked at me with a slight sorrow in his eyes. Kayla had been one of his star pupils and I had always been in her shadow at school. Never as good as she was and always comapred to her.

'Thanks sir.' I said, he nodded back at me and handed me all the stuff I would need. My timetable, my planner ect. I walked out of his office and headed to my form room. It was a Monday, we didn't have an assembly on a Monday so all the class should be in the form room. I neared the door and I could hear my teacher talking to the class. I put my ear to the window and listened.

'Now class, any second now an old pupil of ours is going to be returning to the school and to our class.' I could hear murmurs of the other students. I decided to walk over to the door. I knocked and Miss Parish motioned for me to enter. I shyly walked into the classroom and heard gasps of my fellow classmates. Then a girl ran up to me and hugged me close. It took me by suprise but then I reaslised who it was. It was my Best Friend Eva. I hugged her back and she pulled me over to the spare seat next to her.

'I knew you would be back!' She said as Miss began reading out the student notices. I just smiled at her and looked round the classroom. Upon finishing that I turned back to Eva.

'I can't believe how this room has barely changed at all. Only change is different things on the display walls and notice boards. Eva smiled at me and then we both listened to Miss and my day was much brighter. The lessons flew by as each teacher welcomed me back into the school with open arms, lunch arrived and Eva and I sat in the canteen just like old times. She got me up to date with who's dating who and all the gossip. Eva is one for gossip, she knows everything about everyone. I'm not sure how but she just does. I looked round for Tommy but I couldn't see him. I saw all his mates on a table  near the entrance but he wasn't there. Then our other friends Taylor and Molly turned up. We walked over to the field and sat with everyone. I was thankfully accepted back into the group and they all acted as though I had never left. It felt good.

Near the end of lunch I finally saw Tommy. He was playing football with some of his mates. It made me feel better seeing him so happy after this morning. When he had finished playing and the bell had gone he wandered over to me and pulled me to one side.

'Meet by the bus stop after school?' He asked. I nodded and He smiled back at me, he waved as he ran off to join his mates. I caught up with mine and last lesson went by. It was the end of the day and I said good bye to everyone and made my way to the bus stop. One of  Kayla's friends came and sat beside me.

'Hey Holly' Amy said, smiling at me. I had always liked Amy. I smiled back at her.

'Hey, how have you been?' I asked her. We got a convosation going and she told me all the stuff she and Kayla used to do and how much she missed her. She then reached into her bag and pulled out a notepad.

'This was Kayla's' She said, staring down at the book. 'She had it in her locker and I never got the chance to give it to you' She handed it over to me and then swiftly left. I began to wonder where Tommy had gotten to. School had finished twenty minutes ago. I sat and began to read the notebook. A few pages in I saw one line. My jaw dropped and I shut the book firmly. I ran, back to Jane's and picked up the letter from Dad. I tore it up into shreads. I fell to the floor and began to cry. I looked at the line again.

'  'Dad' Raped me again Today'......
