Chapter 9: Tommy's Point of View
I stood alone at the train station, staring at the timetable. I had no idea what train I needed to take, I walked over to the information desk. I needed to be as quick as I could, who knows what that monster was doing to Holly...
My phone began blaring out at me, it was Dad. I really couldnt deal with him right now so I rejected the call. But as soon as I had ended the call, he rang again. I let it go to voicemail, he would leave me a message if it was THAT importent.
'Tommy, Mum has been rushed to hospital. Please come to the hospital as soon as you can. The doctors dont think she will make it' My heart dropped. I forgot about Holly and ran.
I ran and ran, thank god the hospital was close to the train station. I stopped outside the hospital doors. Why was I here? Mum had never cared about me, she wasn't my Mum anymore. She was just a drugged up zombie. I still walked through the doors and into the hospital. I had barely taken two steps inside when someone fiercely grabbed hold of my arm. I looked up to find my Dad glaring down at me. He pulled me over to one side before punching me in the face.
'This is all your fault you little bastard' He hissed at me. I could of hit him back, to be honest I should of hit him back but I didn't. I looked into his eyes and could see that behind the anger he was full of pain and hurt. He loved my mother more then anything, the drugs made her happy so he never stopped her. He had watched her fall apart.
He dragged me over the room Mum was in. We stopped outside the doors leading to the room. I could see her lying there, lifeless. Tubes and wires coming out of her, she had her eyes tightly shut. I felt Dad's presence behind me.
'Overdose' He stated. His voice full of pain.
'Didn't you try and stop her?' I asked. I had touch a nerve as Dad turned me round to face him, he gripped my arms tightly, pinning them to my body, I couldnt move them. I struggled against him.
'I went looking for you!' He half yelled. ' I searched for a good 3 hours Tommy!!' My head fell, it was my fault. I knew what Dad was going to say next before he even said it.
'When I got back she had taken an overdose and was pretty much dead. I should of been there to stop her but no, I was searching for you!' Dad loosened his grip on me.
'Why were you looking for me anyway?' I asked, turning myself round so I could see Mum. 'You don't care, neither of you do' I heard Dad sigh before I turned on my heels and walked out. I couldn't hear Dad's footsteps but he grabbed hold of my arm again.
'Your Mother needs you Tommy, you can't just leave' He said, his eyes pleading. He was a lot more fragile then I thought.
'Okay, one night. I'll stay for one night' Dad smiled at me and pulled me in for a hug. It wasn't often this happened so I took it and hugged him back. We walked to Mum's room and we sat at either sides of her bed. Dad took one of her hands in his and put it to his lips. I could hear him faintly mumble something into her hand. He leaned forward and stroked her cheek.
'Please Baby, dont leave me like this' He said. Tears forming in his eyes. I didn't really know what to do. There was nothing I could do to make Dad feel better or make Mum fine again.
The doctors wandered in and out the room but nothing else happened. Dad went to go get some coffee and told me that if I left the room I'd get what I deserve. I didn't want to try his patience, especially not with Mum like this. I paced round the room twiddling my thumbs. What was taking Dad so long?
An hour passed and I was still alone with Mum. The monitor started beeping. I turned suddenly and saw Mum fitting. I stood there and stared as the doctors ran in and started doing stuff to her. One of the nurses ushered me out the room. I waited outside, then Dad finally turned up. He saw me outside and panicked.
'Whats Happened?' He said shaking me.
'Dad, I don't know, she just started fitting and the monitors were beeping' I said, Dad looked though the glass doors.
'Can I go now Dad?' I asked, I needed to find Holly and fast. I'd already wasted enough time.
'In the morning, it's a bit to late now' He said calmly.
'Ok' I said.
Another hour or so went by before we could go back into the room and see Mum. The doctors were talking to Dad and updating him whilst I sat at Mum's side. I took hold of her hand and stroked it.
'Why did you have to do this Mum?' I asked her in a whisper. 'Dad is a wreck' I continued. Dad walked over, his face a ghostly white. I stared up at him and waited for him to speak. He didn't, he just broke down. He sat on the other side of the bed and wept. Clasping Mum's hand he kissed it as the tears continued falling.
The two of us sat in silence. It was the early hours of the morning and Dad had fallen asleep on the chair, still clinging onto Mum's hand. I couldn't sleep, all I could think about was Holly. I needed to leave now. I stood up and made my way to the door.
'Don't you fucking dare walk out that door Tommt' My Dad said sternly. I turned myself to face him. He stared at me with puffy, red and bloodshot eyes. He stood and walked over to me. I tried to back away but within a few steps my back was pressed against the wall. I winced as it had bashed a few of my old bruises. Dad placed a hand round my throat and held me against the wall.
'If you leave then that's it' He growled at me. Tightening his grip around my neck. 'Don't expect your mother or I to be there for you'
I sniggered. 'You've never been there for me. Never!' I yelled at him. I kneed him in the stomach causing him to release me. I grabbed my bag and ran. I was going to go get Holly, before I lost her.
