CHAPTER 4

Peeta and I lay on the blanket next to each other on our sides. We just lay there for hours, staring into each others eyes, until I finally speak up.

"What are we doing?" I ask.

"Relaxing on the roof." Peeta says.

"No, I mean what are we doing with us? What do we do after the games?" I ask.

"What do you want to do?" Peeta asks.

"I'm not sure." I say. "What about you?"

"I have a vision." Peeta says.

"What's your vision?" I ask.

Peeta moves closer to me so that our noses barely touch. "I see, two people in love. I see them get married, have children, have a family."

What Peeta says doesn't surprise me. I've been thinking about that too.

"And who are these two people?" I ask.

"You," Peetas says. "and me."

There's a long pause before a talk again. "This plan could work." I say.

A smile spreads across Peetas face which causes a red warmth to reach my cheeks.

"I was hoping you would say that." Peeta says. He takes my hand in his and lifts me off the ground. "Follow me." he says.

He leads me downstairs down the hallway. He takes me into a dark room and closes the door.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Wait a second." Peeta says. He flips a light switch on and I almost fall from the impact of the paintings that surround me.

It felt like the car on the train with Peetas paintings. but these were different. They weren't the games. They weren't paintings of me. They were flowers. The ocean. The beach. Waterfalls. It was complete beauty, and Peeta has brought them all to life. I approach one that looked like the ocean in District 4. It looked so real.

"Katniss." Peeta says.

I turn around to see Peeta down on one knee in the middle of the room. I approach Peeta as he looks up at me. "Yes?" I say.

He pulls out a small blue box and looks up at me. He opens the small box to reveal a small ring. A small blue diamond attached to a gold band. "Katniss Everdeen, will you marry me?" Peeta asks.

I look down at the ground, trying to hide the redness that is returning to my cheeks. I look back at Peeta whose now staring into my eyes. I take in a deep breath, preparing to answer him.

"Yes." I breath out quietly.

"What?" Peeta asks.

"Yes!" I shout now. "Yes yes yes yes yes!"

"Yes?" Peeta smiles.

"Yes!" I say.

Peeta stands up from the ground and lifts me up by my waist and spins me around. He presses his lips to mine as I wrap my arms around his neck, clinging to him tightly. He sets me down and presses his forehead to mine.

"I love you." he says.

"I love you too." I say. I lean in for another kiss but we are interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Yes?" Peeta says.

The door opens and Effie steps in looking rustled. "Oh, I am truly sorry to disturb you two."

"It's fine Effie. What's wrong?" I ask.

"Oh! Yes. Well, there's a bit of a problem down in the training center." Effie says.

"What's wrong?" I repeat.

"Come see for yourself." Effie says.

Peeta and I rush down to the training center and are greeted by Plutarch.

"Katniss, Peeta, something terrible has occurred." Plutarch informs us.

"What happened Plutarch?" Peeta asks.

Plutarch gestures towards the knot tying station. I open my mouth to let out a gasp or a sob but neither comes out because I'm left speechless.

Lawson has hung himself.
