Izzy perspective"Mom I will be fine, I promise"
"Izzy you need to realize that its hard for me to let you go like this, I lost your father, I am not ready to loose you too."
I am moving to Chicago for a special music program in a high school on the south side. I'm an only child and my mom never thought I would move out of Canada or at least not till after high school.
Around a year ago we lost my dad. We were driving back from a family reunion and a drunk driver hit us. Me and my mom were hurt but not as bad as my dad. He was taken to hospital and died the next day. Since that very moment life hasn't been the same.
I have always been a music freak. Even when I was a toddler my dad would dance and sing with me all around the house, he was my biggest supporter. After he died my mom wasn't as supportive. I always new I would end up in the states for music and my dad supported it the whole time. But since the incident my mom is afraid to let go. I took a year off of music. When my dad left I lost my love for it and just recently I decided I needed it back. I needed to be away from all my past decisions and start new and I figured Chicago was a perfect place to start.
After finally saying goodbye to my mom, I got past security at the airport and found a spot waiting to board the plane. I previously flew most of my belongings down to my apartment in Chicago all I had with me now was my backpack and guitar. I have never really been on a flight like this alone, my dad would always come to gigs with me anywhere but this time I am starting over all alone, I am scared but also excited to see what can happen.
"flight 405 is now boarding, please have your ticket and passport ready"
I pull out my headphone and start heading to the gate, walking down the hall towards the plane with my guitar in hand I reach my seat and get situated and take my seat. As soon as the plane lifts off I place my headphones back on and fall asleep.
A couple hours laterI wake up just as the plane is landing. Gathering all my things, I stand up and walk into the airport and down to my car which my mom had bought and send down there.
My mom is very protective towards me now since my dad past. She is pretty much spending all of her hard earned money to make sure nothing possibly could go wrong in Chicago. I'm extremely thankful but sometimes I think she is over protective. The whole point of this move is for me to start over but she is sending me everything I need from CanadaOnce I get into my car I reach into my bag and pull out my pack of cigarettes, light one and try to find my way to my new apartment.
