Liam was sprawled upon his bed, deep in his thoughts.

Why did Zayn have to leave in the middle of touring?

Not only did it take a toll on the fans, but it caused the other bandmates to mourn. Liam was especially worried about Niall. He hadn't seen the blonde in a few days and occasionally he would hear deep sobs coming from Niall's room.

Liam walked to Louis's hotel room. They were in Jakarta, Indonesia for the On the Road Again Tour. He knocked on the door, and opened it when he heard Louis tell him to come in.

Louis was stuffing clothes into his luggage, and Liam made a mental note to himself to start packing tonight.

"D'you need something, mate?" Louis asked as he looked up from his neatly folded assortment of clothing articles.

"Yea," Liam sighed and sat on Louis's bed, "Have you seen Niall lately?"

"I saw him a few days ago getting some food," Louis pondered, "You should talk to him tomorrow on the flight to South Africa. I think that Zayn's departure really tore him up."

The boys walked through the airport in silence. Usually Niall instigated the conversation, but he trudged on the linoleum floor with a closed mouth and eyes directed away from the others. It was early in the morning, so thankfully there were no fans crowding the terminals.

They boarded their private plane and after the usual bickering, sat in their respective seats. (Louis and Harry always fought for the window seat) Liam looked to Niall sadly. The seat next to him was empty. It was where Zayn was supposed to sit.

The plane took off, and after an hour, Liam moved to sit next to Niall. He nudged him slightly, and Niall lifted his head, exposing his watering eyes.

Liam wrapped his arms around the younger boy till he fell asleep in his warm embrace.

a/n ~ okay so this is set during the on the road again tour for the album, four, and I did a bunch of research and here's how this story is going to work: each chapter will correspond with a month of the year. The first chapter is set in March after Zayn leaves. I'm going to make the story as realistic as possible and try to fit the storyline in with what they did in real life in 2015 and where they were. In late-March, they were in Indonesia and South Africa, so I tried to portray that here. If you ever get confused, just google the on the road again tour and you can see all the places they went to on the Wikipedia page :)
