It was Zack's first day of middle school.
Nervously, he put on his favorite dark, gray shirt and purple shorts. Then he placed his purple baseball cap on his head and went downstairs.
"Honey, you don't have time for breakfast! Just eat an apple on your way to school." His mother tossed him a spoiled apple and he caught it reluctantly.
Great, he thought. It's the first day of school and I'm already late. How much worse can this day get?
Zack chomped his spoiled apple.
"Blehh!" he yelled as the moldiness hit his pinkish tongue appendage.

Zack's mom parked her car right on the curb of Meatloaf Middle School. He could already see crowds of students pooling around the classrooms.
"Have a good first day! I wuv you," his mom said, giving him a quick peck on the cheek. Zack hugged her and hopped out of the car. He got his backpack and began to walk toward the school while itching his butt because it had a mild rash.
"P.S. I hate you! Hee hee!" his mother whispered into her elbow crook.

Kaffufin was very happy for today. Today was his first day as a seventh grader!
He could just see himself marching into the yum-yum (loonch) room proudly dressed in his favorite shirt (that looked like it was made for toddlers) and fabulous baggy pants. He couldn't wait!
But just as he was walking with his rolling backpack toward the yum-yum room, he bumped into someone who would change his life forever.
