Chapter 5

           Breathing like a panting dog, Karena ran through the woods unaware of what  pursued her. Going through the leaves as no mans business. It was the end of the road. The darkness was approaching relentlessly. She screamed as she woke up in the darkness of the cell. She could not overpower the fear she felt. Sweat rushed down her face like a slow moving stream.
   'What was that all about ' she asked her self in freight. After much thought, she managed to get her self back to sleep wonders what the darkness was. This time,  She was in boat, the weather was  stormy. Lightening won't let the thunder complete its  task. The water was stormy, waves bombarded her boat. Freight and more freight over shadowed her. She turned to find the steering wheel but it was cut of. She sat, like a frightened child, with her head buried within her knees. Nathan approached, having his boat and another boat. No matter how stormy the sea was,his boat was firmly sailing with out stress. The waves didn't seem to have any effect on the boat. But hers on the other hand was Constantly being hit around like a tiny cricket ball.
Nathan offered her a hand, to help her enter into the free boat but she pushed him away with much resentment. Then that smile of love came forth again.

          From the day Nathan left the station, she dreamt that smile each day for one whole week. Even after her resentment, he still looked at her like that. She had never felt love hit her from a smile not even a smile from James ever had that much impact on her.
   It hunted her every night.

Karena woke up hitting her head with her palms several times       " what's wrong with you Karena?" she said to her self disturbed and a little loud.
"Pipe down Missy I'm trying to get my beauty sleep"
Milan said in a harsh tone.
" beauty sleep. More like piggy sleep " karena mumbled to her self as she chuckled.
        
        " useless brat, come here. Take a seat. No. Take this lighter,light my cigarette. Come on do it Now." Celeste said emphasizing on 'now'. Jamie picked the lighter and lit her mother' cigarette. Then she motioned to the door.
    " brat, come here. Take a seat. I will have a cigarette while I watch you train to take in cocaine. That way when you are sad you will always have something to make you glad."
She said giving Jamie a little White pack of cocaine.

     The poor girl refused but Celeste dragged her to the table while she ran, pushed her head downward, and mistakenly, Jamie took in a huge doze of cocaine. She could feel her nostrils divide into pieces. Just then her mother's grip on her was lessened and she ran through the door in tears as her mother laughed mockingly.

       Nathan was in his office, reading, when Phillip rushed in panting.
              " Teacher, she's out at the gates.
   " who's  out"
" the girl from last time. The........ the Jamie girl. She passed  out at the gates."

      Nathan rushed out with speed. On reaching the gates,  she had blood oozing out of her nostrils.
      Nathan carried her into his car and off they went to the hospital with speed.

   When they reached the hospital, Nathan had a call from Max.
        " Teacher, the board meeting just started now. Were are you."
"Give me thirty minutes. I'm in sought of a tight situation."
" thirty minutes!. What do I tell them."
  " please Max just this once"
" not as if I could say no. But you owe me"
" thanks partner. "

When Jamie was handed, to the doctors, Phillip was even more worried than Nathan expected. It was due to this that  Nathan realized that Phillip was around.
So he asked Phillip to wait I'm the hospital while  he went down to the meeting. Phillip agreed with hesitation because the time for his shift in the station was approaching.
      
      Nathan went for the meeting and luckily, Max had covered pretty well for him,  so things weren't much of a mess. Nathan had to look for a replacement sooner than he thought.
     Nathan offered Max  the position. But after much thought, Max rejected the offer. He couldn't possibly handle the heat of a company that was beginning to gain grounds.

       After the meeting, Nathan left  and headed straight for the hospital. When he got there, Phillip was no were to be found. Nathan was distracted from an array of thoughts by the doc's voice.

         "Nathan ,can we talk in my office?"
" sure thing doc" he said with vibe as they went to the doctors office.

    " Nathan were did you see or how did you know Jamie. Because, we found a huge amount of cocaine in her system. So are you related? "
    "Not exactly. I just happened to fine her in the places I go. And the cocaine stuff no idea how that came about"
    " Then you better find out. don't you think so teacher?
She is only ten. So I trust you to do what's right. And your friend says to tell you he had a call from work. "
     " I will and thank you."

Nathan left imagining what happened to Jamie. By the time Nathan was leaving, he was updated on Jamie's case, but she was not yet awake so he left, to come the next day.
        
      Nathan took another stop at the station, to check on Karena. But Karena as always didn't want to. I guess Nathan considered him self a people person nonetheless, he managed to keep his integrity and respect all the time. Not once did people look at him with disregard but it didn't change the fact that he had enemies. People who thought he was fake,those who thought he was stupid to be humbled and others who just didn't like him.
      Nathan spent an hour trying to get Karena to talk with him but to no avail. By the time he was living the station, it was seven.
           He was so tired that he decided to make no other stop,to just go straight home.
     On reaching home. On his way home, the car had a break down. He felt like sleeping in the car,but could not resist the sweet calls of family time. He tried to arrange for a mechanic or another car but it didn't work.
     So in all his tiredness, he had to walk home. On reaching home, everyone was already at sleep except Susan who waited for him earnestly but with out fear. Nathan opened the door Sluggishly, which made the door to squeak. Immediately Susan heard the door, she rushed towards him , hugged him, took his bag, and then came the voice.

     " welcome hon." Susan turned to go to the bedroom.
"Aren't you forgetting something" Nathan said emphasizing on some thing.
   Immediately, Susan understood and walked over to him, giving him a kiss with a broad smile.
     Nathan went in took a quick bath and was ready to eat. After he ate, Susan could not resist the tiring and  stressful look on his face.
        " Nathan, come I want to show you something " he stood up slowly and held Susan's hand and she led him to the balcony outside their room which was on the second floor of the duplex.
      From the balcony, you had a perfect view of the stars. There was a comfy long relaxing chair, a  bowl filled with snacks, a warm blanket for cold,and to top it, cool music came from the background. It was irresistible. Immediately he saw the gesture, a broad ile filled his face. The couple sat out at the balcony, counting stars,saying jokes, eating snacks and having a good time. Susan was tucked in Nathan's arms when she fell asleep. Happily, they spent the night on the balcony.
