Junes POV

Tonight. Was the night we were finally going to put the lab stuff behind us. Because we were sick of it. Others were going through the same inhuman atrocious activities as we were.

But we could help. We could save many people along the way from what could have been, and already has.

I could prove possibly to myself and others I am useful. I was put on this earth for a reason, not just to suffer while others bask in their own glory.

Tonight.

I might not make it. If it was a lab, they could kill me instantly. I knew Robbie wasn't willing to accept it, but sometimes we must move on with life.

But if hundreds were saved. One life may not be so bad. I want to make a difference. I don't just want to be another cloud slowly drifting away to ash. To nothing.

Jared would keep watch if anything bad happened he would tell us on our walkie talkies.

Robbie would stall for time in case they have guards. Then we turn off all weapons and power.

When the lights go off our "bat glasses" as Melissa called them would turn on, and we use the tracker to find where the chips identical to mine are held. And then we use the file deleted to delete the files permanently. We head outside to call the police, they investigate.

It had so many flaws. But it was the best we could do for the time being.

Robbie's hands were shaking as he turned the steering wheel on his red ford mustang to what looked like a prison, not a lab.

There was a hole in the fence. Melissa nearly went through. But I knew from a little spark in the corner. Force field.

Just to prove to her I threw a stick at it. Sure enough it disintegrated in front of her own eyes.

Jared's eyes widened. While her and Robbie walk again he grabs my arm tugging me backwards.

"Please keep her safe June. Take care of yourself. You guys are all we really have."

I nodded and gave him a big hug.

"Hey. I'll see you soon" I say trying not to quiver.

He smiles and nods.

I run on ahead. Robbie and Melissa were at the back entrance.

We turn on all the technology, I pull Robbie aside while Melissa sets it all up.

"Listen Robbie, please stop denying it, I might die in there. I just want you to know I love you. I always have, to the moon and beyond Robbie, I have never loved anybody like I have you. But please promise me something." I say as my eyes water a little at the corners.

He tears up a little himself. My lip quivers at the edges seeing him in this state.

"Promise.. You'll take care of my sister. Make sure she's happy. Please Robbie. I want her to be happy. I don't want any harm to come to her ever again. She's gone through a lot at her age. I can't have anything happen to her."

He nods. "I promise June. Stay safe. I can't loose you. I've already lost a lot"

He cups my face and leans in. And we kiss.

Melissa clucks her tongue. "June come on we have lives to save."

The walkie talkie comes on. "Coast is clear. Doors are open, alarm has been disarmed." Jared says.

Me and Melissa eye each other.

I open the door slightly. It clicks open. The lights were still on. Robbie runs to the control room, the alarms go off. I had a pit in my stomach, if anything happens to him, it would be all my fault.

I see somebody point a gun at him. Before the trigger goes off I nail him hard in the back and kick him so my foot is on his back. I take his gun and stash the bullets.

Nobody else comes, the lights flicker once, and then they go off, the night vision goggles go off, and see whip out the tracker.

I heard a gunshot in the distance.

I heard it whiz just past my right ear, luckily not damaging anyone.

I reach for the trigger in my pocket, now all the guns have been disarmed for 1 minute.

We run, according to the tracker it was on the third floor. We bolted up the stairs.

I counted 30 seconds left. Still one flight of stairs to go, and then 10 seconds to undo the alarm.

25 seconds.

We reach the top of the stairs. We could hear them gaining on us with loud grunts.

20 seconds. We reach the door. Melissa figured out the code while I fight them,

12 seconds.

Melissa successfully opens the doors.

9 seconds. Melissa whips out her device, and scans every transmitter in the world made by them.

5 seconds, Melissa attempts to shut them down.

2 seconds. All devices shut down.

We did it.

The lights flicker again, signalling that it was successful.

Me and Melissa run out as fast as we can. But the devices shut down because of the power override.

More gunshots.

Within seconds,we got lost.

We reached a dead end. They were closing In on us.

One guy pointed the slick gun at Melissa.

I could see Robbie and Jared in the distance, they were to far.

To far.

"You ruined our work. It seems fair we kill you. Any last words?" One of the big brutes say.

"To die? Would be an awfully big adventure." Melissa says smiling.

They point the gun and her, before they pull the trigger I run in front of Melissa, and shield her.

Screams erupt from Jared, Robbie and Melissa.

Robbie cradles my head and whispers softly.

"I will never love anybody else Junebug

I will never love anybody like I did you"

I see a police come in and I smile.

I see a faded women who looks like me.

"Mom?" I say

She nods. "Come into the light sweetie. Your time is not up yet"

She extends a faded hand, and I accept it.

Together we step into the light.
