Kyra

Sun was a rarity in the-village-over-the-wall. I lifted my head, basking in its warm rays. Elfie sat in Damien's lap, drinking out of the water skin Serena had made. Our backs were pressed against the wall.
"One day." Said Damien, opening his eyes. "One day Ani, I'm going to break this blasted wall down."
"I'd like to see you try, it's six meters thick. My father measured it." I scoffed.
"No really Ani," He said turning to me, and I admit I'd never seen him look so serious. "I'll gather a group of people, and together we would smash that wall to the ground. Break it up so much it would be nothing but rubble." He pushed his back harder against the wall, as if he were imagining it's fall.
"You shouldn't say that Damy." I whispered, "the wood guards might be listening."
"It's six meters thick." He grinned wickedly. "No one can hear through that." I gave him a playful shove, which nearly sent Elfie flying. Elfie readjusted him self on Damien's lap, then said. "When will you take me over the wall?"
"When your strong enough to climb it." I smiled, stroking a knuckle down his cheek. He poked his little tongue out at me, and I stuck mine right back at him.
Just then a girl walked past.
"Kyra!" Called Damien.
"What are you doing?" I hissed. He grinned his wicked grin at me.
"I just wanna chat."
I gulped, piling Elfie onto my knee.
"Hi Kyra!" Damien waved. Patting the spot need to him. "Care to join us?" My cheeks went bright pink as she tossed her mousy hair back and nodded, smiling.
"Sure! Thank the Breaker there's sun today, I feel she owes us it." She said, sitting down beside Damien. (Breaker - a type of god the villagers believe will one day break down the wall.)
I watched her and Damien chat about the village and weather, her family, what he had caught last week. All the time I just sat I silence, Elfie still on my lap, watching Kyra out the corner on my eye.
Hunger certainly hadn't taken a toll on her looks. Her thick mousy hair just passed her small shoulders, curling slightly at the end. Her hazel eyes slightly up tilted. She had a small figure, flat chested despite her age. Her looks were simple, but I'd never seen anyone else look so pretty. In comparison to her, my brown hair and sharp hazel eyes were laughable. I didn't notice it was raining until Kyra got up.
"Of corse the Breaker had to send rain now! I was having such a good time too." She huffed. "Thanks anyway, I hope to see you soon." She said politely. Walking away.
"Dumb-ass."
"What?!" I said indignant.
"You should have said something! She was there for fifteen minutes." He said. I blushed deep red, suddenly finding Elfie's daisy chain very interesting.
"Come on Ani, when are you going to ask her to eat?" Damien asked, getting up. I swung Elfie onto my hip. In the-village-over-the-hill it was customary to ask your love interest to eat with you, as a way to bond and get to know each other.
"When I catch something good for her to eat." I mumbled starting to walk home.
"What have you caught that's not good enough for her? In this place you grow your own food or you hunt over the wall. If you don't you starve, end of." He replied, turning down his road. We paused outside his house, amusement still shining in his eyes.
"Fine." I said crossing my arms. "Next hunt I'll go down to the pond and see if I can catch a duck, that tastes better then squirrel anyway."
"Im coming on that hunt, I can't wait to see you splashing round the pond trying to feed your sweetheart." He grinned. If Elfie hadn't been asleep on my hip I would of shoved him into the sewer, instead I just scowled at him, giving him a vulgar gesture.
He laughed. "See ya later Ani." He waved closing the door behind him. I bit my lip to stop my self laughing out loud, starting to walk home.
It was still raining when I got there.
