This plan needed three. Which meant I needed to make up with Damien. He wasn't happy about Asha, just as I'd guessed, but he agreed to the plan. Asha had agreed to meet us half way to the wall, at high moon, (midnight she called it) with Elfie. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't terrified. For her, for Elfie, what they'd do to both of them if they were caught. Perhaps her father would allow her a quick death, but I had no doubt Elfies would drag on, slow and painful. I blinked away the images flashing through my mind. Focus.
"Where is she?" Muttered Damien. I shot he a glare.
"Sorry!" He said showing his palms. I rolled my eyes, both of us going back to lethal quiet.
It wasn't long until we heard it. A gentle hissing, coming quickly. A snake? But a snake can't snap every twig it sees. Then suddenly, CRASH! A branch snapped down, and a girl moaned.
"Asha!" I hissed. Leaping through he bushes. The branch had fallen on her ankle, thankfully missing her head.
"Are you ok?" I asked taking her pale hand and hauling her up.
"Yeah, its just twisted." She said bitting her lip.
"Where Elfie?" A small panic, not seeing him, but she smiled lifting her ridiculously long dress. I chocked on my delight, seeing my little brother rush out of her skirts, and crush into my leg. I sobbed, feeling my legs wobble. Damien nodded to Asha taking Elfie and starting to run through the woods.
"Will you be able to get back to the palace alright?"
"Go back?" She laughed. "I'm coming home with you."
"What?!"
She grinned grabbing my hand, and pulling me through the woods. She took a knife out of her beaded bag, slicing through the bitten gem of her dress, and wrapping the rest around her hand like bandage.
"Heard climbing a wall is difficult." She smirked still running.
"Your crazy." The wall was in sight, Asha surged ahead, as if that wall was her salvation.
"Asha! Wait please, you don't know what your doing, hardly anyone can survive over there. Please go home." I begged.
"Home is were you are, home is we're in free." She said softly, reaching out to touch the wall. Damien and Elfie sat at the top, looking down, Damien ready to help pull us up. So I grabbed her hand hauled her along with me. Her silken slippers were no more than rags by the time we were half way up. A gentle patter of rain crawled down our backs.
"Your insane." I yelled, the rain coming harder down. She only stuck out her tongue and climbed faster.
"Pull her up!" I called to Damien. He held out a muscular arm, his braided hair soaked with rain. Asha gasped as her knees grazed the tip of the wall, the remains of her shoe falling to the ground. I pulled my self across, finding Elfie and pulling him into a hug.
"I'm all for the sentimental moments, but let's do them when we're not in plain sight of Tiyrin." Said Damien crossing his arms. I rolled my eyes, taking Asha by the hand and starting to climb down the wall. I almost slipped down the last drop, the bits of moss growing out of the wall, slick with water.  I turned to face Asha, who's hand I had not let go of.
"You know you can still go back, back to all your fine dresses and riches and title." I said, trying not to sound bitter.
"Back to silence and loneliness, back to where my voice will never be heard? No. I want to stay here. Where I'm free, where I can chose would to love." She smiled, daring to brush a finger over my cheek. I watched Damien and Elfie smartly back away, leaving us in piece. I looked deep into her beautiful eyes.
"Do you think you could love me?" It was barely more than a whisper, but she caught every word.
"Yes, I really could." She breathed, entwining her hand in mine. I leaned in, brushing my lips against hers, the cold rain pouring down around us. The water froze my skin, but her touch sent fire through my veins.
