Axel Allisons POV

My face had been a blank expression for over an hour now as I worked on injured werewolves. Both Alphas lay dead, leaving only the old beta who had a gouge in his left leg. I didn't know whether to be thankful or afraid that there was no sign of Darren in the hospital wing.

Everytime the doors would open I would catch a glimpse of Alyssa. Alone - but safe. Everytime we made eye contact she'd send me a sad but encouraging smile. And would try to send me mind links - I love you. That's all she said - and it kept me going.

That's when they brought another unconscious body in - my immediate thought was that they were unfortunately dead - and my chest hurt when I caught sight of the familiar dark skin - Darren. I clenched my jaw - his chest was moving up and down. I could hear the doctors and medics claiming he had numerous blows to the head and was thrown against a rough surface - his hip bone broken along with a large number of other parts of his body. My best friend was being treated as I stayed to the side, working on somebody else.

I hoped Alyssa didn't see him.

"I think you should go home Axel." The head medic placed a hand on my shoulder. I stopped stitching up the man that lay on the table - irritated. Again at my young age - he had said so himself, I was to young to be a medic, unexperienced. But I ignored him and started my work - the quicker I finish the quicker I can go and take Alyssa home.

But I continued to work. "I can't, you need all the help you can get." I turned back to work.

"Don't do it for you or the pack - take your mate home." My hands froze as he sent a look towards the door where Alyssa still waited on the other side.

"O-Okay." My hands left the warriors body and walked towards the water dish to clean my steady hands.

I felt the warrior, that I had healed, eyes trained on me as I walked to the door. My eyes brushed over the dead alphas, two sheets over them. I bit my lip as I pushed the doors open, Alyssa instantly wrapped her arms around me as I got out of the way of the doors. All the while the warriors eyes remained on us.

But I ignored him, wrapping my arms around Alyssa tightly.

"We're going to go home." I told her calmly.

"Okay." She let out a shaky breath, squeezing me tightly before pulling away. My mind couldn't focus on anything other than holding tightly onto Alyssas hand. I wouldn't be able to drive - thankfully Alyssa seemed to know and got into the driver seat.

We sat in silence - not driving.

"A-are you going to be okay?" She asked, reaching out to hold my hand.

"The alphas are dead, Darren is injured - worse than before." I told her calmly, feeling her grasp on mine tighten. "I don't know what's going to happen." I admitted, wrapping my free arm around her neck and pulling her into another hug.

I couldn't fall asleep. Unlike Alyssa, who passed out instantly curling her body into mine and slept soundly. I wish I could fall asleep easily - Alyssa got exhausted easier I guess - but problems tend to plague my mind, preventing me from sleeping, even beside my mate.

What made my mind really whirl - was that if there was no alpha - the job of looking out for the pack would fall to Darren.

Darren. Who hopefully would make it through the night. I had to tell Rosie.

Reluctantly, I climbed out of bed, pressing a kiss to a sleeping Alyssa before walking downstairs. I tried my best to keep quiet, closing the door behind me, Molly lapping up water in the kitchen was to tired to bark or chase after me. Alyssa had found out the breed the other day - a Kuvasz - very expensive and big dog. Which meant Molly was going to get bigger and bigger. Right now she only came up to my knee - fully grown she could possibly come up to his waist. Great - a large dog who is adorably clingy.

My shoes crunched on the dew ridden grass - the whines and battle crys of the fighters gone - everything seemed peacful. And I arrived at the neighbors house - Rosie and Darrens home. I didn't want to do this, but they were my best friends, Rosie needed to know what was happening to her mate.

I knocked on the door, the sound hollow and empty. The door opened to show me Rosie, her hair usually vibrant fairy floss hair was straw like and in a bun - seemingly grey, her usually blue eyes seemed empty and she had a frown on her face. And she quickly pulled me into a hug. "How bad is it?"

"He's alive." I frowned, hugging her tighter. She sobbed into my chest, quickly trying to wipe away her tears.

"Where's Als? Come in." She pulled me in, tears rolling down her cheeks, bags under her eyes.

"She's at home." I told her, walking in. She wore Darrens shirt and over sized  boxers - probably also Darrens. It made my heart clench at the sight.

"Want some hot chocolate?" She offered, her voice distant and her eyes continued to tear up.

"Rosie - Rosie." I tried to get her attention. She fumbled with thr kettle. "Rosie do you want to spend the night with us?" I grabbed her elbow gently.

"Why?" Her bottom lip quivered.

"Why? Because Darren never wanted you to be alone, ever." I told her, my own eyes watering. She let out a heart wrenching sob and threw her arms around me. "I got you Rosie." I told her, eyes blurry, nose stinging. "He's going to be alright."

Eventually, when Rosie had calmed down, we had gone to my house. Alyssa woke up when I brought Rosie into our room, she instantly wrapped our crying friend into a hug, lying down on the bed.

We both held Rosie as she cried, each of us slowly falling asleep. Darren was going to be alright - there was no way he would leave Rosie lone. Not even death could get in the way.
