Axel Allison's POV

Standing with Darren, Dustin and a few other higher up members of the pack, I still couldn't focus on anything other than the headache that came from Alyssa's sickness. I love her so much and it is hurting me so much to be away from her.

Especially in order to work.

The Alpha... Dustin... Had asked me to come here, he hadn't expected for me to agree as Alyssa lay curled up to my chest. Since being here, and knowing Darren and myself, Dustin was more understanding of mates. Or maybe it was just because of Amy. I'm kind of glad my sister is the reason the Alpha took the stick out of his ass.

Tending to the rogues that Dustin and Darren had brought in from our territory, I cleaned them up as much as I could.

From old cuts that needed to be cleaned, even to bruises and fractures that needed a little attention. They snapped at me and demanded to know who I was, where they were, and where I lived so they could kill me in my sleep. These Rogues really had their hackles up.

"This has a splinter in it," I said, brushing off their threats. The other med-wolf with me picked out the equipment I would need. "It won't heal properly if it stays in," I continued.

The Rogue beneath my tweezers writhed in his chair, a black burlap sack over his head. He grumbled in a low breath, hissing in pain as I dug past the thin layer of skin that had attempted to grow over it. By the wears and tears around it, I could tell he had tried to remove it himself.

"The more you tried to take it out, the deeper it went," I said, pulling out the uncomfortably thick piece of wood. Maybe the rogue slammed into a tree and a piece of bark was embedded in his back.

"I noticed," the rogue snapped.

"Looks like I got it all out," I said outloud, placing the discarded splinter into the petrie dish. "I don't recommend removing this bandage for at least three days, after that the wound will need to breath but just to be safe, keep it away from anything that could infect it."

"Whatever," he snapped from beneath the hood he was under.

I fought off the urge to roll my eyes. My head hurt, my chest hurt too. Being away from Alyssa just hurt.

And she was in that state because of something the rogues were doing. It was getting harder to treat them with an unbiased opinion. And when the other rogue literally buckled in his seat, the more unbiased I swear I was becoming. But I was a proffesional, I had to keep up my demeanour.

"Once he is done, you will be answering our questions," Dustin said firmly.

His constant, penetrative gaze from the door of their holding cell was enough to make Axel almost drop his tools. It took a lot of focus to keep his hands steady. Being watched by someone I wasn't exactly on good terms with so closely was giving me a little bit of performance anxiety.

"I just need to finish up here and we're done," I instead said, once I found my voice. As I secured the wound with a bandage, I was thankfully finished.

I pressed a little hard, on accident, at the excitement that fuelled me. I get to go back to Alyssa now.

The Rogue flinched beneath my hands, the slowly healing bruise almost a sick yellow. Luckily for her it was healing.

A hand clasped my shoulder, as I put down my tools. Dustin offered me a pat and a nod before removing the burlap sack from the rogue.

Her brown hair looked like it was decently looked after. A tattoo of the name "Ryan" was in bulky letters along her jaw. A family name, a child, or a mate. I couldn't help but think it looked badass. I wonder what it would look like to have Alyssa tattooed somewhere on me. And the more I stared at this womans face tattoo the more appealing having one became.

"Fuck you," she seethed, spitting to the side. The way she clenched her teeth had my attention instantly. Alyssa may have to wait just a moment longer.

"Where does it hurt?" I asked.

She was clearly in pain, and yet. "Fuck off, I'm not telling you anything?" She snapped, writhing against her restraints.

Clicking my torch on, I grabbed her a little roughly by the face and shone it in her eyes. My heart nearly stopped when her pupils took too long to respond.

"Alpha, she needs serious medical attention right now," I said, my voice unshaking. I had done this nearly a hundred times, I can do it in the presence of my Alpha. Anyway, I didn't doubt that Amy having a connection to both of us would smooth out the tension he originally thought was there, I could face less consequence of talking to him a little entitled. This was my patient.

"Of course," Dustin said, without missing a beat. I was more surprised than the Rogues. "Take this woman to the hospital with Pack Medic Axel."

The titles were being thrown around to help the Rogues distinguish that this was a pack. That there were jobs. Also what names tied to what position. It was a risk, but one Dustin was willing to take, especially if the Rogues weren't planning on leaving.

A few pack members were at my side, already hoisting the rogue out of the holding cell and out the room faster than I could keep up. When I left the room, my assistant was cleaning up all the medical supplies we had used... And the Alpha was cracking his knuckles.

Maybe I had just saved this woman's life.
