Chapter 5

Ding-dong

Regina's mother opened the door. Ruby was standing outside with her backpack. "Oh." Regina's mother said confused. "Who are you?"
"I'm Ruby Lucas." Ruby said holding out her hand. Regina's mother shook it. "Regina invited me."
"Oh that's right. Come on in. I'll get Regina." Regina's mother said. She turned around quickly. "Oh I apologize. I'm Regina's mother, Cora Mills."
"Nice to meet you, Mrs. Mills." Ruby said smiling.
"No, please call me Cora. 'Mrs. Mills' makes me feel old." Cora said.
Ruby laughed at Cora's comment.
"Regina!" Cora called from the bottom of the stairs. "Ruby is here."
Regina closed the book she was reading and walked downstairs. She saw Ruby standing in her hallway. "Sorry to keep you waiting." Regina said.
"No it's fine." Ruby said smiling.
"Do you want to go upstairs?" Regina asked.
"Sure."
"I'm going to the store. Do you guys want anything?" Cora asked grabbing her purse off the kitchen counter.
Regina and Ruby thought for a moment. "Can you get us some soda and candy?" Regina asked.
"Sure. Anything else?" Cora asked.
"I think that's it. Thanks mom." Regina said waving goodbye to her mom as she and Ruby walked upstairs.
Cora said goodbye to Regina and Ruby, and headed out the door.

Regina was reading and Ruby was on her phone. Ruby sighed and put down her phone. "I have a question." Ruby said. Regina out down her boom and focused on Ruby.
"What is it?" Regina asked.
"Do you like that Robin guy?'
Regina's eyes went wide. Her faced turned pink with embarrassment. Ruby looked at Regina.
"So that's a yes then?" Ruby said smiling.
"Robin and I are just friends, and that's all we'll ever be." Regina defended.
"Ok whatever."
Ruby and Regina sat in silence for a few moments before Ruby spoke up again. "I'm bored."
Regina sat up. "There's a mall outlet a few blocks away. Do you want to go there?" Regina asked.
"Yeah. And while we're there we can get you some new clothes." Ruby said smiling.
"What's wrong with the clothes I'm wearing?" Regina asked looking at her clothes.
"You look like you only had five minutes to get ready."
"I like to dress comfortably. What's wrong with that?"
"Nothing, it's just I think you should spice things up a bit. You're hot, you just don't dress like you know you're hot.Ya know maybe you'll even get some attention from the guys at school."
"I don't really like to draw attention to myself."
"I'll name a deal with you."
"What is it?"
"I'll buy you some new clothes for a week, and you have to wear a new outfit that I bought for you everyday for a week."
"And what do I get out of this deal?" Regina crossed her arms.
"Um." Ruby thought. "I'll pay for everything AND I'll take you shopping at Barnes and Noble."
Regina liked that idea. She'd been meaning to buy some new books anyway. "Ok deal."

Ruby and Regina walked to the mall, and when they got there Ruby took arm and took her into Forever 21. "What are we doing here?" Regina asked nervously looking around the store.
"Shopping for you of course." Ruby said.
"I'm not sure about this."
"Don't worry. I won't make you wear anything that's too...uh...um... What's the word I'm looking for?"
"Sexy? Suggestive? Slutty?" Regina asked raising her eyebrow.
"Yeah sure."
"Why are we doing this?"
"Because you need to branch out, and expand your fashion horizon."
"Ok. I guess that makes sense."
"Before we do anything else. What size are you?"
"X small in the top and a double zero in the bottom."
"Jeez, Regina. You need to eat something."
  "I'll have you know, I eat plenty."
Regina and Ruby walked around the store for a good hour. Ruby had picked out at least five different outfits for Regina, where Regina had only picked out one small thing. Regina had found a few cute sweatshirts that'd she'd pay for herself, but anything Ruby found, Ruby would have to buy it. They met up and Regina's eyes went wide. "Is all of that for me?" Regina asked staring at the thousands (not actually) of hangers she had.
"Yep." Ruby said smiling. "And we still need to find some accessories and shoes."
"Seriously?"
"Yep. I have a few questions before I buy any of this stuff. Do you have a personal preference as to what you'd like to look like? You know as your new self."
"I'd like to look kind of badass I guess. I really like leather jackets."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Favorite color?"
"Black. Definitely. Purple and red too."
"Ok. Dresses?"
"Maybe. I like skirts more though."
Ruby bought the rest of the things she needed from Forever 21 and they moved in to the next store. They decided to skip American Eagle because it was a little pricey. Ruby lead Regina into Pacsun, H&M, and zumiez. Ruby bought Regina some things from there and they moved on to Sephora. "What are we doing here? I thought we were just going clothes shopping, Rubs."
"Well, your face has to match your outfit."
"True, but I don't know how to do my makeup. There's a reason I limit myself to makeup."
"I'll teach you."
"Ok. I trust you."
Regina and Ruby walked around Sephora. Ruby picked out some mascara, a eyeshadow palette, and an eyebrow kit. Regina decided that she wanted some lipstick. Ruby had suggested it because she noticed that Regina had really beautiful full lips. Regina and Ruby picked out a few matte liquid lipsticks. Regina picked out three. A dark purple, a dark red, and dark brown. Ruby picked out a dark nude and a bright red. Ruby and Regina walked out of Sephora. "Ok." Ruby said. "Time for shoes."
Regina looked at her phone. 5:45. Regina and Ruby went into a shoe store. "What's your shoe size?" Ruby asked.
"Seven and a half or an eight." Regina said.
Ruby separated from Regina and began looking for shoes. She found some black leather heeled boots that went up to Regina's knees and some black ankle boots with a four inch heel and buckles. Regina found some black combat boots with a three inch heel, like the ones she had in sixth grade. Ruby found a pair of deep red faux swade pumps and a pair of faux leather boots that went above the knee. Regina also found some mid calf length black leather boots that had a three inch heel as well. After looking in the shoe store for another hour, they were finally done. "That took way longer than I thought." Regina said pretending to wipe sweat from her forehead.
"Well that's the price you pay for beauty." Ruby said.
"I'm hungry."
"Same. I'll ask my mom to get us a pizza."
Regina called her mom.

Phone call
Regina: Hey mom.

Cora: Hi sweetie! Are you ok? Do you need anything?

Regina: Yeah, Ruby and I are fine. We just got back the mall. Can you get us a pizza on your way home?

Cora: Of course. What kind?

Regina: Half pepperoni and half sausage and black olive.

Cora: Ok. I'll be home in an hour. I still have to do some things.

Regina: Ok. Bye, I love you.

Cora: I love you too, sweetie.

End of phone call

"My mom said she'll pick up a pizza for us." Regina said putting her phone in her pocket.
"Awesome." Ruby said licking her lips.

Ruby and Regina were playing Mario Kart in her Wii. "Alright. What level do you want to do?" Regina asked.
"Rainbow Road, definitely." Ruby said.
"Bad choice Ruby. I'm going to kick your ass."
"In your dreams."
Regina pressed the stat button and the race counted down "3...2...1...GO!" The first moment Regina got, she slammed into Ruby's car and her character fell off the race track. "Hey!" Ruby shouted. "That wasn't nice!"
"I warned you." Regina smacked back.
The three laps were over and Regina had won. Ruby threw the Wii controller on the couch and slumped over. "Yes! Yes! Yes! I wi-in! I wi-in!" Regina said in a sing song voice, dancing around the room.
"No fair. You cheated!" Ruby said.
"No I didn't. All I did was give you a little nudge."
"That's cheating."
"There's no rules saying I can't do that."
Just as Ruby was about to trash talk back at Regina, she heard the door open. "I'm home." Cora announced.
"Yes pizza." Ruby said. She stood up from the couch downstairs and ran upstairs.

After Ruby and Regina were done eating, they brought their plates back upstairs and went into Regina's bedroom. Then Regina's phone vibrated from a text. Ruby looked over at Regina's phone. "Who was that?" Ruby asked.
"No one, just Robin." Regina said, texting Robin back.
"What did he say?" Ruby asked smirking.
"What's that face for?"
"Oh nothing."
"No, seriously what?"
"Nothing, it's just that you don't always see what's right in front of you."
"Hmm..."
Regina thought about what Ruby had just said. She couldn't think of what she meant. She decided to get some sleep, and maybe she'd have her answer in the morning.
