warnings: slight angst

You woke up in the midst of a cold sweat. A chill surged through your body leaving your hands tingling. As you sat up properly, you winced slightly at the soreness from your recent injuries. Your eyes take time to adjust the darkness of the cell. Until a small realization hit you as you gazed at your new surroundings.

You were no longer in the cell.

Studying the room, you realized how vaguely simple it was, all the while way better than the dreaded cell. Smooth walls with a glowing blue light running across the middle adorned the room. You looked down and gawked at the fact that you were in a bed, an actual damn bed. Assuming you were so comfortable, you didn't even realize.

There was a soft knock on your door, and from the brightness of the hallway came in a woman.

The first thing that came across your mind as she walked inside was absolutely stunning. Enormous white strands curled around her body. Her smooth, dark skin complimented the pink markings underneath her bright eyes.

The door shut behind her and she gave you a warm and welcoming smile.

"Hello," She introduced. "I am Princess Allura of Altea. It's so nice to finally see you awake and in health, you gave us quite the scare when you were brought here."

You blinked for a second, then shifted a bit to align yourself to be fully sitting up. Your mind questioning what was going on. Was it a test? Were you truly out of the hands of the Galra?

"I don't," You said in pure confusion. "I don't understand. What happened? Where is this place?"

The princess flattened the lining of her gown with the palm of her hands and sat on the edge of the bed.

"You were rescued, by one of the paladins. I'm sure you are familiar of Voltron. Do not worry, you are now safe with us in the Castle of the Lions."

She fidgeted around with her fingers, crossing over and out, gripping her knuckles. "When they found you, you were in such a horrible and critical condition, we didn't think you were going to make it after you, you-"

Closing your eyes you let out a wavering sigh.

"After I tried to end my life." You finished in a breath.

The princess gazed at you, eyes gleaming with worry. She placed her hands upon yours with pure softness.

"(Y/n)," She began, you pondered how it was she knew your name, but ignored the matter. "Though we have only just met, I vow to always be here for you, and I'm sure the others will as well."

"Well," The princess continued with a relieving chuckle, enlightening the tense air. "That is, after you come along with me to meet everyone,"

"I'm positive you've already met Shiro."

Shiro. The achingly familiar name rung throughout your ears, staggering and unsteady. Your time together in the cell instantly appearing through your memories. His fondness, his optimism.

His promise.

Nausea bubbled in the pit of your stomach. You couldn't see him. You didn't think you could bring yourself to. He never came back. You spent two years, two horrible years in that awful place. Then, out of nowhere, he was back, to save you? He proved enough that he no longer cared with the period of absence he left you. It was the guilt, you thought. All it was, just guilt of leaving you behind, he still didn't care.
