(Y/n)'s Point of View

We were awoken by Allura's yippy voice going through the intercom. "Paladins! Please suit up and report to the control room as soon as possible!" I groaned, deeming it was way too early for whatever Allura had planned. I lean over and realize that Shiro wasn't in the bed with me anymore, which was kind of strange.

I groggily drag myself out of bed and begin to suit up. Once I finished adjusting the last of my armor, I headed out of my room and over to the control center.

I meet up with everyone else in the control room. I spot Shiro and he flashes me a smile. Then he asks the princess. "What's going on Allura?" She turns to face us and pulls up a data chart. "We've picked up a distress beacon from a nearby moon. I have already set coordinates to each of your lions. I need you all to go down there and investigate."

She types in a few things and continues. "Since it does not indicate where exactly on the moon the distress beacon is coming from, I'm splitting you into pairs. Pidge, you and Keith will search the west quadrant. Lance and Shiro will go to the mainland. Finally, (Y/n), you will ride along with Hunk to investigate the remaining sectors. Does everyone understand their duties?"

We all nodded in agreement and started to depart. Shiro called me right before I left with Hunk.

"Are you okay with doing this?" he asks nervously. I smile as he tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "I don't want you getting hurt." I could tell there was fear in his eyes, but I leaned into his hand that was gracefully on my cheek. "I'll be fine Shiro, I can protect myself." I say as I pull him into a small embrace. He places a small kiss on my forehead and whispers "Be careful (Y/n)."

We both sigh and split up to go with our assigned partners. Right before I walk out with Hunk, I give Shiro a final glance and a small smile. He waves and heads out with Lance.

------

After climbing out of the yellow lion, Hunk and I walked into what seemed to be a forest. The forest was dark and deathly quiet, only the sounds of our footsteps and breathing could be heard. The more deafening the silence was, the more nervous Hunk would get.

"You're not scared right? Right, of course not, you're (Y/n). Yeah I can be fine. Just like you. Totally cool walking through this space forest. This dark, scary, spooky space forest. Oh, who am I kidding?! Something's gonna jump out at us and-"

"Hunk!" I whispered out. "Keep your voice down. Look I know it's scary, that's why we have to stay low, we don't know what's out here. So just- uh, think happy thoughts?" I told him.

We continued walking along through the dark forest, trying to look for anything that was out of the ordinary. Our steps were quiet due to our knowledge of not knowing what was on this moon.

"Happy thoughts, happy thoughts." Hunk mumbled as we got deeper into the forest. I stayed alert, keeping an eye out for anything that may be a threat to us.

"I wish I could see my family right now." he muttered silently. I turn to look at him. "Do you miss them?" I asked as quietly as I could. "Of course, there's not a day where I go thinking about them. They're the ones who taught me how to cook. How to be cautious about everything." he chuckles as we both remain walking through the forest.

"You'll see them again soon." I reply "I'm not sure when, but you have to promise to introduce me to them." I smile. Hunk's nerves seems to go away and his face softly lights up. "Heh, you're just like my little sister." he says nudging me in the arm.

"I'm pretty sure I'm older than you Hunk, also you got to teach me some of your amazing cooking skills." I say as we crouch under a slanted tree. "Definitely, but it's harder than you think." he says sarcastically.

"Well I'm pretty sure I can-" We were suddenly interrupted when a blast nearly striked us. Instead it hit one of the trees behind us. Exploding it instantly. "Shit! Take cover!" I yell out to Hunk.

Damn it. There was no distress beacon. It was a trap. I look over across to Hunk who was nailing a few of the sentries with his blaster. Then ducking behing his current hiding spot to reload.

I try to send a message to the rest of them through the coms. "Guys! It was a trap! There's no distress beacon! Hunk and I are under heavy fire!" I yell into the small mic. There was no response. Fuck, we were too deep in the forest for any signal to cast out. I grunt out in frustration and the legs once again started glowing purple.

I knew I had to help. So I sprinted out from the tree I was hiding against. The sentries tried firing towards my direction but the legs were swift and agile, making it easy to dodge their blasts. I slice through them, huge bolts of purple electricity ranging all over. Making the dark forest glow with a brilliant purple light.

There were a lot of them. Even if Hunk was helping me take most of them down with his blaster, they just kept coming. Suddenly the legs emitted are dark glow and sent out a huge wave of black shock. All of the sentries instantly fell to the ground lifeless. I breathed heavily and sunk on one knee trying to catch my breath.

Hunk came out of his hiding spot and smiled triumphantly. He had a contagious smile, it always lightened the mood, no matter what circumstance. I smile back until out of the corner of my eye, I see one of the what I thought to be inactive sentries, shakily raise his blaster. It was aimed right towards Hunk, who was oblivious in the moment. I looked around and there were no weapons near me, nothing of value to finish off the sentry who was only a couple of feet away. But I knew that Hunk was more valuable, he's our caring friend, genius chef and the Paladin of the Yellow Lion, so I do the only thing I can.

Bang.

The bolt fires, and it hits me instead of Hunk, who I flung myself in front of between him and the dying galra sentry. I crash onto the ground, my head hitting first and snapping back. I felt a slight burn, like if something was melting, but besides that I couldn't feel anything. I can't see if Hunk's alright, I couldn't move, but I could hear someone's muffled screaming so I must've done something right. I feel liquid pouring down my suit, draining me out slowly. I let out a weak smile, then I feel someone scoop me up. Slightly running with me in their arms and letting a cool breeze flow through my helmet and onto my face.

Everything's moving too fast. But slow. It's all so confusing. Vivid swirls of bright colors come to view. They made me feel numb and sleepy. So I let my eyes flutter shut.

And submerged into the darkness.
