RUDOLPH IS WATCHING ME!

We all know, as children we would watch the Christmas cartoons during the holiday season. You know what I am talking about. I know you know what I am talking about because if you didn't you had a bad childhood. You know, Frosty the Snowman, The Island Of Misfits Toys, Santa Clause Is Coming To Town, Charlie Brown's Christmas and last but not least Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer. Lovely for little kids too watch. No problem could ever come from those, right? Hmmm, add the Rudolph story to Ray Stevens song "Santa Clause Is Watching You", you get a big problem. In the song there is a phrase "hey, where's Rudolph?" Someone responds  "he's on a stakeout at your house." Now ya get my problem?!

That was totally terrifying to a very young girl. I didn't always behave. Well, I hardly ever behaved. So the fact that Rudolph was on a stakeout at my house really caused me stress and anxiety.

You may ask what proof did I have that I was being watched. Believe you me, I had proof. See at the end of our hallway was a window. The blinds were never closed. I could see the moon through them, every night. But what I didn't notice until that song came out was the glow of a reddish orange light in the sky. So, yeah that little ball of light became Rudolph's nose. Proof he was watching me. Proof he was going to tell Santa I was very bad.

Every time I went down that hallway at night, I would either cover myself with a blanket or hide behind a pillow. I would then run for all it was worth to get out of view of Rudolph.

That lasted almost a full year. Until my papaw caught me running down the hallway.  He asked why my head was covered and why I was running. What could I say? He was an adult, he was probably in cahoots with Santa. Anyway, I told him about Rudolph watching me.

Yeah, so with that information my papaw bust out laughing. Poor little me couldn't figure out why. He ask why I thought that. I let him hear the song. "It's just a song" he says. I told him I had proof, that Rudolph has been watching me all year long. I also told him I was not the worst kid out there and that Rudolph should go spy on the other kids. I didn't think it fair that I was the only one being spied on.

So my papaw wanted to see what proof I had. I held his hand and walked him down the hallway. I showed him the reddish orange ball of light. "See, papaw, it's  Rudolph." He really bust out laughing then.

He then closed off a door that was in the hall. I was like where did he go. He opened the door again. POOF there he was again. I still couldn't figure it out.

That is when he pointed to the hallway light that was never turned off. It was reflecting in the window. Needless to say, the whole family was told my story. The WHOLE FAMILY thought it was hilarious.
