As night broke out into day, a group of hand selected villagers, including Maki's uncle, were readied with guns and weapons along the edge of the woods. They were going to hunt down and kill the wolf, going against every wish that Maki had. He watched from his window with a feeling he could only describe as dread creep his soul, wanting more than anything to stop his uncle.Maki couldn't sleep the previous night, the chaos still fresh in his mind like a hot iron brand. Maki thought he was going crazy, not really sure if what he had experienced was real or not.
Maki wasn't sure what to do at this moment. Should he follow the group and risk the dangers of the woods, or should he wait for the news of the wolf being killed? He didn't think either was a good option, but he did know that he wanted to see the wolf again. Maki had no idea why the thoughts of a wolf flooded his mind but it was a feeling unlike anything he had ever felt before. Euphoria clouded his mind like wispy, tunnel clouds and he wasn't sure how to shake it.
Maki gathered a small bag of supplies and headed for the edge of the woods, just peaking to go inside. The warnings of the townspeople rung in his ears over and over making it that much harder to follow his desires. He shouldn't go in there, the woods were dangerous. Too dangerous for a kid who had no real experience surviving in a wild.
Don't come inside
Maki heard the soft voice whisper against his ear, delighting every nerve in his body to go to it. It was as if the voice was pulling him in, drowning out his thoughts in only desire.
Maki stepped over across the first tree tentatively, looking back once more before breaking that imaginary bubble that surrounded the woods. Maki felt a cold draft of wind rush past him as he entered, a wind only found within the trees. It hollowed like a baseless cry, warning Maki that he should rethink his desires. Rethink what he was about to do. He could die.
He had been told of outlaws and frightening creatures but it didn't seem real to him. They had to be people, right? There was no such thing as beasts and make believe creatures.
Stay away...don't enter the woods
Maki listened to the whispers in his ears, ignoring the true meaning, stepping forward to what he could assume the direction of the voice. It told him to stay out of the woods, but he didn't listen, too blinded by his desire. It was as if he were sleepwalking, not really sure where he was going but was being led by his mind toward the whisper anyway. He wanted to find the wolf, even though he wasn't exactly sure why, he just knew he had to find it.
It's dangerous
Maki didn't care to listen, he just wanted to see it.
Maki held himself upright as he creeped further inside the woods, listening carefully for any sound that would indicate trouble. He could barely see anything except for the few steps in front of him, but that didn't stop his baseless desires. He wouldn't turn around now, hell, Maki couldn't turn around. He wasn't even sure anymore which direction he had came from anymore.
Maki did the only thing he could do and that was to keep pushing forward. He gripped the new lantern like it was his life source, hoping the small light could hold up against the fierce wind.
As he delved deeper, time passing like seconds he could hear the sounds of yelling, followed by erratic gunshots. Maki quickened his pace, ignoring his rapid heartbeat and conscience to turn around. The whispers had gone silent, it scared Maki.
