Anti finally stopped at a newly abandoned building, but he didn't leave for a while until he knew Mark hadn't followed us. After an hour of him sitting, listening and waiting, he finally left. I fell to the ground like I had fainted, but as soon as I hit the ground I was back to normal. I immediately went to my throat to see if the giant gash was still there. Nope, it felt perfectly normal. After I made sure sure I was in one piece, I turned to Anti, who was looking out the windows now that Mark was unable to see him.
"Okay, what the actual fuck just happened?" he turned around, and I could see the gash I had had before on his own neck. "Jesus! Why do you still have that?"
"I think it makes me look pretty," he faked a smile a struck a cheesy pose.
"You do you."
"Do you know who that was?" He glared back out the window, checking for him again.
"Ummm, Mark? But definitely not Mark? He was like you," Anti hissed.
"He is nothing like me!!" he spat and his voice echoed through the room, making him seem more menacing. I stepped back, holding up my hands. "He was the one who betrayed me. The one who banished me here. He was the one who ruined my life," he was so angry, he was heavy breathing.
"Why would he choose Mark as a vessel? Why not my neighbour or something closer to us?"
"He must've thought if he chose a friend of yours you wouldn't let me attack him."
"Speaking of which, will Mark be okay?" He rolled his eyes.
"Do I look like a fortune teller?" Anti went back to his window, and I left him to his incredibly angry thoughts to go explore the place. Wonder where we were? I could probably tell from the accent people had outside—or at least get a rough idea. The building had been completely scrapped. No bugs or mice which was nice, but no beds, pillows, or blankets. Just wooden flooring. My footsteps echoed through the empty apartment...? It could've been an office too, but it seemed set up more homey. I returned back to the room Anti was in to find him sitting underneath the window, eyes closed, listening.
"I think he's gone, Anti."
"You want to take any chances? Because I don't," I stuck out my tongue at him while he wasn't looking, and I saw him return the favour. I sat down cross-legged and flipped him off, he countered with both hands. I couldn't not giggle a little. I saw a shadow of a smile cross his face. I scooted over so I sat in the sun, and closed my eyes, sunbathing. Too bad I was Irish and would probably burn in a few seconds here. I remember my phone in my pocket, and popped it out. The screen was crushed. Shit. That must've happened when that Nephalem threw me into the wall.
"So, uh, Anti... Could you help me out here?" I asked tentatively. He opened up his eyes to glare at me and my broken phone. "It could come in handy further down the road," he continued to glare. "Pretty please? With a cherry on top?" He took a deep breath.
"And they called it evolution," he rolled his eyes dramatically and snapped his clawed fingers. My phone magically started fixing itself, and in seconds, it was back to normal.
"Thank youuuuuu," I unlocked it to see what time it was, and maybe where we were. It was 3:46 PM, and the map said I was just on the outskirts of my town. "Should we move a little more? We're not very far away from where we were."
"Now you've got your head in the game. Judging by the fact I don't see anything blowing up around us, I think we're safe, and we should just camp out here for a little longer. I need to be at full strength if we do run into him. Tomorrow we'll have to have a plan. Any ideas?"
"Not really. We could just stay here, if anyone finds us I imagine you could do something to their heads or something."
"Yes, crush them."
"Calm down tiger, we're not crushing anyone's heads yet. I'm talking memories and stuff—like some Hermione Granger shit," he looked at me, obviously not getting the reference. "She was a witch and she could take people's memory away. It was cool," Anti nodded slowly, still not understanding it.
"Yes, I suppose I could take their memory, but it wouldn't be as fun," he whined.
"Tough luck. You're using me as a vessel, and I say the only thing were killing is that Nephelam."
"At least we can agree on something."
