It was becoming later in the evening, and my stomach was protesting to my lack of food today. I checked in my pocket for some money, and found £10. Enough to buy a burger or something, but just enough for tonight. If have to work something else out tomorrow, maybe I could go back home and get my wallet? It'd be risky as all hell, but right now it seemed like the only option. I pushed the thought away for later and went to go find Anti. Just as I had suspected, he was still crouching beside the window, waiting for any sound out of place to reach him.
"I'm going to go buy myself something to eat, I'll be right back," I wheeled around, taking a step to leave when he appeared in front of me. I stumbled back, almost tripping on my own feet.
"Are you insane?? You can't leave right now! He knows what you look like, and he'll turn you into dust before you can scream for help. No. You'll have to wait, whether you like it or not," he hissed, trying to take out his anger out on me.
"Okay! Okay! Calm the fuck down! But it is kind of an issue Anti. I'm not immortal like you, I actually have to eat at some point, or I'll be useless to you," he rolled his eyes a took a deep breath, obviously annoyed with me.
"Stay right here, and if you hear or see anything, call for me. If you die, I'll kill you."
"Aw, you almost sounded like you were trying to be genuine," he squinted his eyes and turned into smoke in front of me, crashing through the window, and glided through the streets almost faster than my eye could keep up with.
I stood in front of the broken window, and looked out at the street below. People were staring up at me with a mix of angry and surprised expressions. I pretended I wasn't there, as to not attract attention to myself, and looked past the building to the sky. The sun had gone down, and stars were beginning to appear in the sky, and I remembered that little song I used to sing when I was little. Star light, star bright, the brightest star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, have this wish tonight. And then you would make you wish on the first star you saw. I always wished for games and consoles, never thinking much about others. I smiled to myself as I remembered some of my favourite childhood memories. The thought was torn from me when I saw the wisp of black and green smoke rip around the corner, and back into the building. Anti appeared beside me holding a sandwich of some sort.
"Will this do?" he handed it to me and I took it graciously.
"Yes, thank you," he nodded his head slightly in return. I took a giant bite out of the sandwich, and it turned out to be a variety of meats and cheeses. Pretty damn good too. But at this point I felt hungry enough to have eaten anything. "While we're here, can you talk more about the place your from? And about that other Nephalem. Why is he here?" I knew he wanted and needed to vent, so instead of waiting for him to hurt me or an innocent person, I would try and direct it a little more.
"I have no clue why he's here. Maybe he heard I was still kicking and had to come put a stop to my fun," he rolled his eyes dramatically. He pulled two knives from his pockets and started tossing them around in his hands mindlessly, seeming deep in thought.
"So, if you are able to get rid of this guy, won't they just send more? That would be my strategy anyway."
"Probably. That's why I have to bring the fight to them before they bring it to me."
"You can go back there?"
"It's going to be a fucking pain in the ass without wings, but yes, we can get there. Mind you there's a few thousand Nephalem there who all want me dead, so I'd like to have some sort of backup or ally with me. Any ideas?"
"I only know humans, and that's not going to help us much. There has to be other Nephalem who are against your elder's beliefs, won't they side with you?"
"I told you the story, I went and ransacked the most sacred place to their culture, they all want me dead. There's no easy route to this one."
"We can make a plan for that later down the road, we need a plan for now. What's our next move?" He laughed sarcastically.
"It's not much of a move, buddy. We're going to sit our asses right here until this place becomes compromised. Then we'll find another place, and so on. I don't have enough strength to do that again. I mean I could, but neither of us would come out alive. We're going to have to play the waiting game."
"Sounds good. So what do we do if he shows up again?"
"Run like hell."
"Gotcha."
